Homers in major-league debut Montes went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, a solo home run and an additional run scored during Tuesday's 9-6 win over Boston.

Impact Montes was promoted from Triple-A Tacoma ahead of his major-league debut Tuesday, serving as the designated hitter. His RBI single in the third inning was his first big-league hit before belting a 407-foot solo homer to center field in the fifth to give the Mariners a commanding 9-1 lead. Although he was the DH on Tuesday, Montes should see plenty of reps in right field given Taylor Ward's recent struggles at the plate.

Officially promoted to big leagues The Mariners selected Montes's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Impact The Mariners will give Montes a look in September as they try to make up ground in the American League Wild Card rate. Montes has popped 38 home runs while collecting a .928 OPS between Double-A Arkansas and Tacoma this season, though it's also come with a 30.6 percent strikeout rate. The 21-year-old slugger should see regular playing time against righties, which would likely eat into the playing time of the struggling Taylor Ward (.378 OPS with Seattle).

Impact Montes will make the leap to the major-league roster after batting .249 with 38 home runs, 96 RBI, 99 runs scored and eight stolen bases over 453 at-bats in 123 games with Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Tacoma so far this season. The 21-year-old has started in right field in 115 of the contests that he's appeared in this year, and the Mariners could elect to shift Dominic Canzone to designated hitter to make room for Montes in the lineup moving forward.

Moving up to Triple-A The Mariners promoted Montes from Double-A Arkansas to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Impact Montes slashed .234/.369/.550 with 25 home runs at Arkansas, which included a 1.199 OPS in June. Contact remains an issue, as the hulking slugger has struck out at a 30.4 percent clip in 2026, but he has some of the best power of any minor-league hitter and has a chance to reach the majors before the end of this season.
