Hits clutch homer in win
Montez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 win over the Rockies.
Impact
Montez launched what proved to be a 426-foot game-winning homer in the top of the ninth inning. The 21-year-old has struck out in 15 of his 35 major-league plate appearances, but he's still hitting .250 with four homers and 10 RBI so far in his short stint with the Mariners.

Homers off bench Friday
Montes went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Athletics.
Impact
Montes hasn't found a ton of consistency at the plate so far, batting .240 across his first nine big-league games. He has tapped into some power with three homers and a double among his six hits, giving him eight RBI and four runs scored as well. Montes topped 30 homers both this year and in 2025 in the minors as he's made a quick ascent to the majors. He'll be in contention to be the Mariners' starting right fielder in 2027, but he could end up in a platoon role if his strikeout rate remains excessively high.

Out versus southpaw
Montes is not in Seattle's lineup against the Athletics on Friday.
Impact
With Jeffrey Springs toeing the slab for the A's, the left-handed-hitting Montes will ride the pine for Friday's series opener. Dominic Canzone will man right field and bat third for the Mariners.

Sitting again versus lefty
Montes is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
Impact
Since his promotion, the left-handed-hitting Montes has now been held out of the lineup all four times the Mariners have faced a lefty hurler. He did deal with a minor hip injury during that time, as well, but it seems clear the rookie will be used on a long side of a platoon. Montes clubbed his second big-league home run in Tuesday's game, and he's 4-for-18 with a 1:9 BB:K in his first six games in the majors.

Launches second homer
Montes went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Tuesday's 10-5 loss to the Rangers.
Impact
Making his return to the lineup after missing Seattle's previous two games with a hip injury, Montes cut the M's deficit to 4-3 in the fourth inning with a three-run blast off Cal Quantrill that traveled 474 feet, tied for the longest homer in the majors this season. After going 2-for-4 with a home run in his major-league debut on Sep. 1, Montes had gone just 1-for-10 in his subsequent four contests. Still, the rookie should see regular playing time down the stretch in a strong-side platoon role.

Back in lineup
Montes (hip) will serve as the designated hitter and bat eighth Tuesday against the Rangers.
Impact
Montes entered each of Seattle's last two games off the bench after suffering a hip injury Friday, and he's now feeling well enough to return to the starting nine for Tuesday's series opener. The 21-year-old homered in his MLB debut last Tuesday but has since gone just 1-for-10 with an RBI and six strikeouts in four contests.

Sitting again Sunday
Montes (hip) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.
Impact
The 21-year-old Montes departed Friday's contest due to left hip soreness and is on the bench Sunday for a second consecutive game, which will provide him with an extra day of rest since the Mariners have a team day off Monday. Dominic Canzone is manning right field for Seattle while Cal Raleigh rests his legs as the designated hitter.

Leaves game with hip soreness
Montes was removed from Friday's game against the Athletics with left hip soreness.
Impact
The 21-year-old crashed into the outfield wall while attempting to make a play on a Zack Gelof triple, which led to Montes exiting his third career MLB game. The Mariners have provided the location of Montes' injury, but the full extent of the issue remains uncertain. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Exits after crashing into wall
Montes was removed from Friday's game against the Athletics in the fifth inning with an apparent injury, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact
Montes, playing in just his third MLB game, crashed hard into the outfield wall while trying to make a play on Zack Gelof triple in the top of the fifth. While Montes got up and was walking around afterward, he was replaced in right field by Taylor Ward in between innings.

Sitting versus southpaw
Montes is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Boston.
Impact
Montes homered as part of a two-hit day in his major-league debut Tuesday, but the left-handed batter will not start Wednesday as the Red Sox send southpaw Patrick Sandoval to the bump. Taylor Ward is in right field for the Mariners, and he will likely continue to platoon with Montes between that position and designated hitter.
