Impact Freeland landed on the injured list Aug. 24 due to cervical radiculopathy, and after spending the past week throwing off a mound, the 33-year-old is now ready to return to a competitive setting. It's unclear whether he'll make additional rehab appearances beyond Wednesday, but because he hasn't been on the shelf very long, he shouldn't need much time to ramp back up.

The veteran southpaw dealt with a pinched nerve in his neck during his most recent start last Wednesday against the Dodgers, and after he wasn't able to bounce back as well as the Rockies had hoped, the decision was made to deactivate him. The Rockies will call up Mason Adams from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday to join the rotation as a replacement for Freeland, who will be eligible to return Sept. 5.

Impact Despite making an early exit from his previous start last Wednesday against the Dodgers due to the injury, Freeland had been expected to be ready to go for his next turn through the rotation Tuesday in Washington. The veteran southpaw evidently hasn't bounced back from the neck issue as well as the Rockies had hoped, so the club is expected to call up right-hander Mason Adams from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Freeland's spot in the rotation. Freeland owns a 4-10 record, 6.37 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 103:28 K:BB across 124.1 innings over his 23 starts on the season.
