INJURIES
Reinstated from IL
Calhoun (knee) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's game against the Reds.
Impact
He will presumably slot into Arizona's lineup against righty Tyler Mahle. Calhoun underwent partial medial meniscectomy surgery March 3, so this is about as quickly as he could have been able to return.

Plays in intrasquad game
Calhoun (knee) took four at-bats in an intrasquad game Wednesday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact
Calhoun, who underwent meniscus surgery in March, has tested his knee in a variety of ways and appears close to a return. "The quality of at-bat has been good from what I've been reading (in internal reports) and what Kole has been telling me," manager Torey Lovullo said. While he's the team's starter in right field when healthy, it's possible Calhoun could play center field in the wake of Ketel Marte's hamstring injury, which landed him on the injured list Thursday.

Placed on injured list
Calhoun (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday.
Impact
Calhoun underwent knee surgery in March but has still been making good progress while participating in baseball activities. However, the 33-year-old will miss at least the first two series of the regular season while he recovers. Pavin Smith is starting in right field for Thursday's game against the Padres, but Tim Locastro could also see increased playing time in Calhoun's absence, especially against left-handed pitchers.

Will miss first two series
Calhoun (knee) will miss at least the first two series of the regular season, Jose M. Romero of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact
Calhoun has begun baseball activities and "is passing every test," according to manager Torey Lovullo. The Diamondbacks are expected to rotate bodies in right field until Calhoun's ready to return. The left-handed hitting Pavin Smith started in right field Monday against Cubs right-hander Zach Davies. Tim Locastro could see action when opponents start a left-hander.

Takes live at-bats
Calhoun (knee) took live at-bats in a simulated environment Thursday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact
This was the first time Calhoun has executed this activity since undergoing knee surgery earlier in March. The next and final test for the knee will be running, according to manager Torey Lovullo, who added that the outfielder is not yet at that point. Calhoun is expected to start the season on the injured list.

Almost ready for sim game
Calhoun (knee) has taken multiple batting practice sessions and is close to facing live pitching in a simulated game, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact
Manager Torey Lovullo said Calhoun could stand in the batter's box, take a normal at-bat, and strike the baseball but not run. The veteran outfielder is expected to open the season on the injured list. In the meantime, the Diamondbacks are auditioning several players to replace Calhoun in right field, including Tim Locastro, Pavin Smith, Trayce Thompson and Daulton Varsho.

Batting practice scheduled
Calhoun (knee) will take a regular batting practice Sunday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact
Calhoun underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus earlier in March and is expected to open the season on the injured list. While he's been unavailable, several candidates have rotated in at right field. On Friday, it was Tim Locastro's turn. Prior to that, Pavin Smith, Trayce Thompson and Daulton Varsho made starts in right field.

Works out on back fields
Calhoun (knee) participated in baseball activities on a back field at training camp, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact
This was Calhoun's first time on the field since he underwent right knee surgery March 3. The activity amounted to playing catch and taking swings in a batting cage. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Calhoun will not be ready for Opening Day and no timetable has been set for the outfielder's return. That opens an opportunity for several players to man right field early in the season. Daulton Varsho started in right field Wednesday, and non-roster invitee Trayce Thompson has made multiple starts there since Calhoun's surgery.

Expects to return within six weeks
Calhoun said Thursday that his expected recovery timeline from knee surgery was 4-to-6 weeks, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Impact
Calhoun underwent surgery to address a torn meniscus Wednesday. The timeline implies that he should be able to return sometime in April, though he's still very likely to need at least a brief trip to the injured list. The Diamondbacks have a slew of options that will get at-bats in right field during the rest of spring training, including Tim Locastro, Wyatt Mathieson, Pavin Smith, Trayce Thompson, Josh VanMeter, Daulton Varsho and Andy Young.

Undergoes successful surgery
Calhoun underwent a successful partial medial meniscectomy surgery on his right knee Wednesday, Jody Jackson of FOX Sports Arizona reports.
Impact
Calhoun was diagnosed with a torn meniscus Tuesday after battling right knee inflammation during camp, and he had part of his meniscus removed during his successful procedure Wednesday. A timetable for his return isn't yet known, although it's unlikely the 33-year-old will be able to recover in time for Opening Day.
