Fires 5.2 scoreless innings
Arihara (2-1) yielded two hits and two walks over 5.2 shutout innings Monday, striking out six batters and earning a win over the Angels.
Impact
Arihara put a runner on base in each of the first two innings but quickly wiped them out with a double play both times. The only trouble he really created was in the sixth inning when he let two Angels get on base with two outs. He was removed and Brett Martin finished off the inning without letting a run come home. Arihara will carry a strong 2.21 ERA into Sunday's road start against the White Sox.

Earns first big-league win
Arihara (1-1) allowed three hits and no walks while striking out five across 5.2 scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Rays.
Impact
Arihara earned his first major-league win in a strong effort against the Rays. After punching out only two batters across his first two starts combined, Arihara showcased more swing-and-miss stuff by generating 12 whiffs on 85 total pitches. He's also showcased exceptional control of his pitches, walking only one batter across 14.2 frames this season while maintaining a 3.07 ERA. Arihara projects to take his next turn through the rotation Monday at the Angels.

Takes loss Friday
Arihara (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season Friday against the Padres, as he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out a batter over four i...
Impact
Arihara had a smooth first inning but ran into trouble thereafter, as he allowed two runs in the second and an additional one in the third off a pair of extra-base hits and a sacrifice fly. The 28-year-old has been capped at 73 pitches in each of his first two outings, meaning he typically won't go deep enough into the game to earn a win. The Rangers haven't necessarily given him much run support, as they were victims of the first no-hitter in Padres' history Friday night, but Arihara hasn't been very impressive either, giving up 11 hits and five earned runs in nine innings while striking out just two batters. He'll take the bump again versus the Rays on Wednesday.

Decent showing in MLB debut
Arihara gave up three runs on six hits and zero walks over five innings during Saturday's 11-4 loss to the Royals. He had one strikeout and didn't factor in the decision.
Impact
The 28-year-old started with four scoreless frames in his MLB debut, though he was pulled after surrendering three runs during the fifth inning. Arihara exited in line for the victory, but Kansas City erupted for seven runs during the sixth inning. The right-hander lines up for his second start of the season Friday against the Padres.

Named number two starter
Arihara will start the second game of the season Saturday in Kansas City, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact
Arihara is coming off something of a down season in Japan, with his ERA rising a full run to a still-solid 3.46 and his strikeout rate falling to 19.4 percent, but he's found himself with a team where starts shouldn't be hard to come by. The Rangers will open with just three true starters to begin the season, using tandem arrangements for the other two spots, but Arihara is one of the ones who will be relied upon to handle a starter's workload. He looked worthy of one this spring, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 11:1 K:BB in four starts.

Rough 'B' game
Arihara started five innings in a "B" game Sunday but failed to record three outs in four of them, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact
Arihara had all kinds of issues in the game that kicked off at 10 AM. He began by walking three and hitting one batter during a first inning in which he failed to get an out. The right-hander struggled to get a grip on the ball and was seen applying hand cream after the first inning to get a feel for the ball. "More than the ball slipping, I didn't like the way my body was moving today," he said through an interpreter. "I felt like my weight transformation had me diving forward too much and my arm speed couldn't get where I would like. I want to be able to perform, and today was frustrating." This was the second time this spring that Arihara has referred to having an issue gripping the ball.

Progresses in third start
Arihara allowed two hits and struck out three over a scoreless four innings in Sunday's spring game against the Rockies.
Impact
Arihara has made the typical progression in spring outings, working his way from two to three and now four innings. He'll get at least two more spring starts to get ready for the start of the regular season. Arihara is projected as one of the top three rotation members.

Makes second spring appearance
Arihara allowed one run on two hits over three innings in Monday's spring game against the Cubs.
Impact
Arihara showed better control of his seven pitches in this outing than he did in his debut, when he gave up three runs and five hits. The downside Monday was the fielding behind him -- two first-inning errors by non-regulars (Charlie Culberson and Andy Ibanez) extended the inning and used up some of Arihara's pitch count. Per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, Arihara typically pitches to contact, so he needs quality fielders behind him.

Throws two truncated innings
Arihara allowed three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two over two innings in Tuesday's spring game against the White Sox.
Impact
Arihara had a rough debut while running into trouble in each inning, leading to the second frame getting rolled by manager Chris Woodward with the bases loaded and Jose Abreu due up. The Rangers manager also ended the first inning early after the right-hander reached the 20-pitch limit and permitted a three-run home run to Andrew Vaughn. Through an interpreter, Arihara told Sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News that he was unable to consistently locate many of his seven pitches. He also talked about a more slippery ball in MLB relative to the ball used in the Japanese league. Despite the pitcher's struggles, Woodward had a positive assessment of Arihara's outing.
