Clears waivers, starting Friday Kiermaier told Hazel Mae of Sportsnet that he has cleared waivers, and he is starting at center field and batting eigth in Friday's series opener against the Diamondbacks.

Impact Kiermaier was placed on revocable waivers Thursday, with the 34-year-old slashing just .183/.232/.290 with a 32.3 percent strikeout rate this season. He will remain in Toronto for now with no team claiming him off waivers, and the Blue Jays have the option of keeping him around or releasing him from the roster. The 34-year-old at least showed some signs of life at the plate with a three-hit performance in Tuesday's 9-4 win, and another strong game Wednesday could put Kiermaier back in the mix for more playing time in the outfield even after Varsho returns. Varsho could slide over to left field to make room for Kiermaier in center on a more frequent basis if the Blue Jays choose to scale back the playing time of Davis Schneider, who is hitting .135 dating back to June 6.
