Brad Keller - Beginning mound work Saturday
Keller (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact
It will be Keller's first mound workout since he went on the injured list May 19, retroactive to May 16, due to a diagnosis of right shoulder impingement syndrome. There is currently no timetable for his return to the Royals' rotation, but he does seem to be headed in a positive direction now following a brief shutdown period.

Daniel Lynch - Lined up for Sunday start
Lynch (shoulder) appears lined up to join the Royals' rotation Sunday versus the Nationals, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Kansas City is currently listing a TBA for that Sunday start, but Lynch looks like an excellent candidate to fill it after delivering six scoreless innings in his latest rehab outing this past Tuesday with Triple-A Omaha. The 26-year-old southpaw was poised to be part of the Opening Day rotation before he suffered a left shoulder strain in late March. Lynch compiled a 5.32 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 177:83 K:BB across his first 199.2 major-league innings between 2021-2022.

Nick Pratto - Out versus lefty
Pratto isn't in the Royals' lineup Friday against the Nationals.
Impact
The Nationals will begin Friday with lefty Patrick Corbin on the mound, so the left-handed Pratto will retreat to the bench. In his place, Edward Olivares will start in left field and bat sixth.

ROTOWIRE
Michael Massey - On bench against lefty
Massey isn't starting Friday against the Nationals.
Impact
With southpaw Patrick Corbin slated to take the mound for Washington, the left-handed bat of Massey will begin Friday's contest in the dugout. Matt Duffy will take over as the Royals' second baseman and bat leadoff.

Drew Waters - Activated for season debut
Waters was activated from the 10-day injured list by the Royals on Friday.
Impact
Waters has been out all season following a severe oblique strain suffered in late February and also a back issue earlier this month. He's ready to roll now, though, after putting up a robust .327/.397/.635 batting line with two home runs and two stolen bases over 13 rehab games with Triple-A Omaha. Waters is starting in center field Friday and is a good bet to see the lion's share of playing time there at least until Kyle Isbel (hamstring) returns and perhaps longer. The 24-year-old is worth picking up in deeper roto leagues.

Vinnie Pasquantino - Gets aboard four times in loss
Pasquantino went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and a walk in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Tigers.
Impact
Pasquantino had gone 11 games without a multi-hit effort entering Wednesday, a span in which he hit an awful .095 (4-for-42) with two home runs and a 3:9 BB:K. In terms of breaking out of a slump, Wednesday was a solid first step for Pasquantino, who was one of the Royals' most consistent hitters early in the season. He's still slashing .262/.347/.481 with nine homers, 24 RBI, 22 runs scored and 14 doubles through 50 contests.

Josh Taylor - Gives up three runs in loss
Taylor (1-2) allowed three runs on three hits and struck out one in one inning, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Tigers.
Impact
Taylor gave up a tie-breaking three-run home run to Zack Short in the sixth inning, and the Royals were unable to catch up after that. Through 9.2 innings in May, Taylor has given up 12 runs (11 earned) on 14 hits and seven walks, though he has managed 12 strikeouts. The southpaw is at a 7.13 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 26:8 K:BB and one blown save through 17.2 innings overall. With a low-leverage role and poor numbers, Taylor is not on the fantasy radar.

Drew Waters - Excelling on rehab assignment
Waters (oblique) has played in 13 games during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha and has slashed .327/.397/.635 with two home runs and two stolen bases across 58 plate appea...
Impact
Waters began the assignment May 9 and is thus nearing the end of the maximum 20-day rehab window afforded to all position players who reside on the major-league injured list. Given how well he's performed in addition to the lack of production that the Royals have received this season from the likes of Edward Olivares (.689 OPS), Jackie Bradley (.438 OPS) and the injured Kyle Isbel (.602 OPS), Waters could get a look in an everyday role in the outfield once he's activated from the 10-day IL, likely within the next few days. Waters' high strikeout rate in the majors a season ago will make him a batting-average risk, but the combination of power and speed that he offers is enough to make him a worthy speculative pickup in deeper mixed leagues.

Nate Eaton - Optioned to Triple-A
Eaton was optioned to Triple-A Omaha by the Royals on Thursday.
Impact
Eaton is just 3-for-52 with 21 strikeouts on the season. The Royals will announce a corresponding move prior to Friday's game against the Nationals.

Maikel Garcia - Posts another multi-hit game
Garcia went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and a stolen base Wednesday in a loss to the Tigers.
Impact
Garcia reached base three times in the contest, adding a hit-by-pitch to his pair of base knocks. The rookie finished with his second straight multi-hit contest and his sixth such performance through 19 games this season. Garcia has provided steady production since being called up in early May, slashing .279/.346/.368 with six doubles, nine RBI, six runs and four stolen bases over 78 plate appearances.

Zack Greinke - Records another solid outing
Greinke did not factor in the decision against Detroit on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out five batters over five innings.
Impact
Greinke served up a solo homer to Riley Greene in the fourth frame but otherwise kept the Tigers off the scoreboard. The crafty veteran reached five strikeouts for the just the third time among his 11 starts, though two of those performances have come across his past three outings. Since giving up seven runs in 3.2 innings against Minnesota on April 27, Greinke has rebounded by yielding three or fewer earned runs over each of his subsequent five starts. Over that span, he's posted a solid 2.73 ERA, though he has only one win to show for it.

Nicky Lopez - Sits against lefty again
Lopez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
Impact
After returning from the 10-day injured list Monday and going 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk and a run scored, Lopez has been left on the bench for two straight contests. Both of those absences have come against left-handed pitching, however, so the lefty-hitting Lopez could still be on track to fill a strong-side platoon role now that he's healthy again.

Michael Massey - Heads to bench Wednesday
Massey is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Tigers.
Impact
Massey has largely been an everyday player for the Royals this season, but he holds a weak .216/.265/.313 batting line through 147 plate appearances. Matt Duffy will cover second base Wednesday and take a turn out of the leadoff spot.

Matt Duffy - Leadoff look Wednesday
Duffy is starting at second base and batting leadoff Tuesday against the Tigers.
Impact
Duffy carries a .328/.364/.426 slash line through 66 plate appearances this season and will be rewarded with his first look at the very top of the Royals' batting order. He's still not playing regularly, but he's making his rare opportunities matter.

Salvador Perez - Gets night off Wednesday
Perez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Tigers.
Impact
This is presumably just a night of rest for Salvy, who caught 10 innings Monday and another full game Tuesday. Freddy Fermin will start behind the plate and bat seventh for the Royals on Wednesday. Vinnie Pasquantino is serving as the DH and batting second.
