Homers in loss
Walker went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Wednesday's 10-9 loss to the Marlins.
Impact
Walker put the Cardinals ahead with the ninth-inning blast, which came with two outs and two strikes. It ultimately postponed the inevitable, as Jordan Hicks blew the save chance. After hitting safely in 17 straight games to close out June, Walker's bat has cooled in July -- he's gone just 4-for-24 over his first six contests this month. The rookie is at a .286/.351/.452 slash line with seven homers, 24 RBI, 18 runs scored, seven doubles and three stolen bases through 47 contests.

Not in lineup Wednesday
Walker is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Astros.
Impact
This appears to be a routine night off for the red-hot rookie, who extended his hitting streak to 16 games in the Cardinals' defeat of Houston on Tuesday. Brendan Donovan, Lars Nootbaar and Dylan Carlson will start across the outfield Wednesday.

Returns to lineup
Walker (illness) is starting at designated hitter and hitting fifth in Saturday's game against the Cubs.
Impact
Walker was held out of Wednesday's game against Washington, though the issue was considered minor. He'll return to the order and look to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.

Battling illness
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that Walker is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Washington due to an illness, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Impact
Marmol implied that Walker's illness is viewed as only a minor concern, so the rookie outfielder doesn't look as though he'll be at any risk of missing the Cardinals' upcoming two-game series with the Cubs in London this weekend. Walker may even be available Wednesday in a pinch-hitting capacity, though the Cardinals will be rolling out a starting outfield of Lars Nootbaar, Tommy Edman and Dylan Carlson in the series finale.

Sitting Wednesday
Walker is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Nationals, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Walker will get a breather after he went 3-for-7 with a run scored and four strikeouts over the first two games of the series with the Nats. The rookie now owns a 13-game hit streak, batting .400 with four homers, three doubles, eight RBI, six runs and a stolen base over that stretch. Lars Nootbaar will slide over to left field while Dylan Carlson enters the lineup in right field and bats seventh in the series finale with Washington.

Gets first start at DH
Walker is in the designated hitter spot and batting sixth Monday against the Nationals.
Impact
Walker's first career start at DH coincides with Lars Nootbaar's (back) return from the injured list. While it's difficult to imagine the Cardinals will confine Walker to DH at this point in his career, it's pretty clear their best defensive alignment doesn't Brendan Donovan will be in left field Monday.

Homer and steal in win
Walker went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, two walks and a stolen base in Sunday's 8-7 win over the Mets.
Impact
Walker homered for the second game in a row, and it's his fourth long ball during an 11-game hitting streak. The rookie is batting .395 (15-for-38) during the streak. He's shown pretty good contact skills so far with a reasonable 20.1 percent strikeout rate. For the season, Walker is slashing .296/.362/.488 with six homers, 19 RBI, 14 runs scored and three stolen bases through 35 contests.

Swats fifth homer
Walker went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Mets.
Impact
His third-inning shot off Kodai Senga proved to be the game-winning hit, giving the Cards an early 4-1 lead. Walker extended his hitting streak to 10 games in the process, a stretch that's seen him bat .400 (14-for-35) with three of his five big-league homers on the year as well as a much-improved 17.9 percent strikeout rate. There are still rough patches in his game to work on -- he's gone 0-for-3 on steal attempts during his hitting streak -- but the 21-year-old has merely scratched the surface of his talent so far.

Knocks three hits
Walker went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Reds.
Impact
Walker drilled a home run in the second inning and added a pair of singles later in the contest. It was his first multi-hit effort since returning from Triple-A Memphis earlier this month and he's now gone 7-for-24 (.292) with two long balls since the promotion. He improved his season slash line to .278/.333/.433 with seven extra-base hits through 27 games.

Launches home run
Walker went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers.
Impact
Walker launched a 430-foot blast to left field off Dane Dunning in the sixth inning to bring the Cardinals within two runs. It was his first extra-base hit and first RBI in five games since rejoining the big club. He's started in every game thus far since being called back up but has gone just 3-for-18 with a 2:2 BB:K. It seems as though the Cardinals are giving him an opportunity to be an everyday player while working through struggles he may encounter as he continues to adjust to MLB pitching.

Batting eighth in return
Walker is starting in right field and batting eighth for the Cardinals on Friday in Pittsburgh, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Walker was recalled earlier Friday following a five-plus week stay at Triple-A Memphis. The youngster struggled on the whole at Memphis but did bat .333 with three homers and 10 RBI over his last 11 games. He should be the team's regular right fielder indefinitely and will be looking to cash in on his immense fantasy potential.

Officially called up
Walker was called up from Triple-A Memphis on Friday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Walker will join the Cardinals in Pittsburgh ahead of their three-game series with the Pirates starting Friday. The outfielder will replace Lars Nootbaar (back) on the major-league roster after Nootbaar was placed on the 10-day injured list. Walker is the consensus top prospect in baseball and produced a .274 average with two homers, 11 RBI, eight runs scored and two stolen bases over 73 at-bats with the Cardinals earlier this season before being sent down April 26. He actually struggled to a .239 average with 32 strikeouts over 113 at-bats with Memphis, though he is batting .333 with three homers and 10 RBI over his last 11 games. In the end, Walker will look to prove that he deserves a permanent spot in St. Louis in his second run with the big-league squad.

Returning to St. Louis
The Cardinals will recall Walker from Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Impact
Walker started his big-league career with a 12-game hitting streak, but he was optioned back to Triple-A Memphis in late April after he began to struggle both at the plate and defensively. He's been able to turn it around on offense lately, slashing .292/.386/.542 in the minors over the past two weeks, and his promotion indicates the Cardinals are satisfied with his glove as well. Lars Nootbaar's strong play as of late could force Walker to split reps in the outfield, but the top prospect still figures to see his fair share of plate appearances.

ROTOWIRE
Heating up at Triple-A
Walker is slashing .342/.447/.579 with two home runs, one steal and a 25.5 percent strikeout rate over his last 10 games for Triple-A Memphis.
Impact
On the year, he has been nine percent worse (91 wRC+) than the average International League hitter while working exclusively in right field since getting demoted from the big leagues April 26. The Cardinals are getting strong play on both sides of the ball from Lars Nootbaar, but none of the other big-league outfielders have taken a job and run with it. With Walker heating up at Triple-A, he has put himself in position for a promotion if the Cardinals think his defense will be satisfactory.
