Strikes out eight in loss
Means (6-8) allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out eight over five innings, taking the loss versus Texas on Sunday.
Impact
The southpaw gave up a two-run home run to Andy Ibanez in the fourth inning and an RBI double to Adolis Garcia in the fifth to account for the runs on his line. Means issued no walks for the first time in his five September starts. He's been effective this year with a 3.32 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 132:26 K:BB across 143.2 innings. The Baltimore ace should get one more start this year, tentatively scheduled for next weekend in Toronto.

Tosses 6.2 scoreless frames
Means (6-7) allowed four hits and a walk over 6.2 shutout innings Monday, striking out six and earning a win over Philadelphia.
Impact
Means was spotted a 2-0 lead before he took the mound in the first inning and used it to his advantage. He didn't allow a runner into scoring position until the seventh and never gave up an extra-base hit. It was his fifth straight start allowing two or fewer runs and his first scoreless appearance since May 11. The 28-year-old is now sporting a 3.25 ERA with a 124:26 K:BB through 138.2 frames. Means is lined up to face Texas at home this weekend.

Just short of quality start
Means allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four over 5.2 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Yankees. He did not factor into the game's decision.
Impact
The 28-year-old surrendered both runs on a two-run homer by Gio Urshela in the third inning. He threw 103 pitches and was pulled after walking Luke Voit with two outs in the sixth inning. Means has put together five straight strong starts compiling a 3.30 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with three quality starts over those outings. He's projected to face the Phillies in his next start Monday.

Means (5-7) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts in seven-plus innings, taking the loss versus Kansas City on Thursday.
Impact
Means allowed a first-inning solo home run to Nicky Lopez, and then he was charged with another run after attempting to stretch his start into the eighth. Thursday was Means' longest start since he returned from a shoulder injury in July. He has a 3.42 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 114:23 K:BB through 126.1 innings this year.
