Shakes off ankle injury
Votto (ankle) returned to action for Triple-A Buffalo on Friday and has 2-for-5 with a home run, two walks, two RBI and three runs in three games since rejoining the club.
Impact
Though Buffalo never placed Votto on its 7-day injured list, Votto had been out of action for three weeks before he was deployed as a pinch hitter Friday against Worcester. He served as a pinch hitter again Saturday, then started at designated hitter Sunday. Votto should eventually resume playing first base for Buffalo and will look to perform well enough at the plate to receive consideration for a promotion to Toronto. Though the 40-year-old first baseman wouldn't seem to be a fit on the roster for a non-contending Blue Jays squad, the organization may still be eager to give the Ontario native a final sendoff in front of his hometown team before a possible retirement this offseason.

Moves rehab up to Triple-A
Votto (ankle) has been transferred to Triple-A Buffalo to continue his rehab assignment.
Impact
Votto has participated in 16 rehab contests so far between Single-A Dunedin and the Blue Jays' Florida Complex League affiliate, going 8-for-43 with one home run and a 14:8 K:BB in 53 plate appearances. He seems to be feeling fine physically a this point, but Toronto would surely like to see better results before it considers adding Votto to the major-league roster. The 40-year-old could be tracking toward a return to the big leagues after the trade deadline.

Hitting off tee
Votto (ankle) began hitting off a tee at extended spring training over the weekend, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact
Votto also continues to do defensive work as he comes back from a right ankle injury suffered in mid-March. The 40-year-old is slated to go through a full spring training build-up, so he'll remain at extended spring a while longer before eventually being assigned to a minor-league affiliate.

Impact
Votto is working his way through a right ankle injury he sustained in spring training. He will focus on defensive work for now and has not started hitting, per Hazel Mae of Sportsnet.

Will get full spring progression
Votto (ankle) will remain at the Blue Jays' spring training complex and go through a full build-up before beginning a minor-league assignment, Gregor Chisholm of the Toronto Star r...
Impact
As the 40-year-old won't even begin that progression until his ankle is fully healed, he isn't expected to see game action for another month or more. That could put Votto in line to make his Toronto debut in May, but whether he gets added to the big-league roster when ready will depend on how Daniel Vogelbach performs over the first month of the season.

Taking on-field BP
Votto (ankle) will take batting practice on the field Tuesday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Impact
Votto rolled his right ankle in the dugout on Sunday and has been receiving treatment. There's no timetable for when he'll be ready for games again, but the fact that he's been cleared for on-field BP is a good sign. Votto is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Buffalo.
