Shaky command Wednesday Cantillo allowed a run on a hit and a walk over two innings in Wednesday's Cactus League start versus the Diamondbacks.

Impact Cantillo pitched a clean first inning, but a walk, two wild pitches and a double led to Arizona's first run in the second. It's encouraging to see Cantillo work as a starter this spring, but with just over half a season of experience at the Triple-A level (4.64 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 111:55 K:BB), it's fairly likely the 24-year-old will need more time with Columbus this season. Logan Allen (shoulder) has yet to make his spring debut, but the Guardians have veteran Carlos Carrasco in camp on an NRI, so Cantillo doesn't have a clear path to the No. 5 spot in the rotation.

Promoted to Triple-A Cantillo was promoted to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Impact Cantillo has been electric with Double-A Akron so far this season, posting a 1.85 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 35 punchouts over 24.1 innings in six starts. The left-hander will now move one step closer to the big leagues and look to remain just as effective at the next level.

Optioned to Triple-A Cantillo was optioned Sunday to Triple-A Columbus by the Guardians, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Impact Cantillo was limited to only 60.2 innings of work in 2022 because of soreness in his left shoulder, but he was effective in those innings with a 1.93 ERA for Double-A Akron over 14 appearances -- 13 of those starts. The southpaw will open the year in the Columbus rotation in Triple-A, but there's certainly a chance he could finish the year with Cleveland if he's even close to as successful as he was in 2022.

Looking healthy for spring Cantillo (shoulder) completed a throwing session last week on the back fields at the Guardians' minor-league camp, SI.com reports.

Impact Cantillo was added to the Guardians' 40-man roster over the winter and is attending big-league camp, but he has yet to make his Cactus League debut. His absence from Cleveland's spring pitching schedule is likely more of a reflection of the fact that he's not a serious candidate to make the Opening Day roster, as the 23-year-old lefty looks to be healthy again after shoulder soreness sidelined him for the final two months of the minor-league season. Cantillo submitted a 1.93 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 87:28 K:BB in 60.2 innings for Double-A Akron before succumbing to the shoulder injury.
