Out with back strain
Bart was diagnosed with a mid-back strain and placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to March 31.
Impact
The 26-year-old was scheduled to make his first start of the season Saturday but was scratched with the back injury, and he will now be sidelined until at least April 11. According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Bart may only require the 10-day minimum on the shelf, so he could return when first eligible. In the meantime, Roberto Perez and Blake Sabol should split catching duties for the Giants.

Remains out of lineup
Bart (back) is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Yankees, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Bart is reportedly undergoing scans on his back, and those results have not yet become public. The backstop sits again for the series finale with Blake Sabol hitting seventh as the starting catcher.

Impact
Bart picked up the injury during batting practice, Kapler said. The backstop should be considered day-to-day until the results of the imaging are available. Roberto Perez got the start in Bart's place Saturday and could be back in the lineup for Sunday's finale against the Yankees.

Scratched with back tightness
Bart was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees due to back tightness, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Bart's 2023 campaign isn't getting off to a great start. He sat in favor of Roberto Perez on Opening Day, and it will again be Perez behind the plate Saturday. The Giants also agreed to a minor-league deal with Gary Sanchez, adding more competition at catcher.

Not in lineup for opener
Bart is not in the Giants' starting lineup for Thursday's season opener against the Yankees.
Impact
Roberto Perez will start at catcher and bat ninth against right-hander Gerrit Cole. It looks like there will be a sort of timeshare between Bart and Perez in the early going. They're both right-handed hitters, so it's not a natural platoon.

Making most of catcher competition
Bart has gone 5-for-16 (.308) with three extra-base hits, two RBI and two runs scored over seven Cactus League games.
Impact
Blake Sabol has earned a lot of attention for his strong hitting and Roberto Perez has been praised for his defensive play behind the plate, so there's still no guarantee Bart breaks camp with the Giants. Since Sabol also has experience in the outfield and is a Rule 5 pick, it's possible the Giants could carry three catchers if Bart makes the team. For his part, Bart has hit well when in the lineup this spring, so it's up to him to finish the exhibition slate strong and force a difficult decision.

No lock for roster spot
Bart is not guaranteed to make the Giants' camp out of spring training, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact
Bart had a rough year in 2022, logging a paltry .215/.296/.364 slash line with 11 home runs and 25 RBI in 97 games. He'll need to show some growth in the spring to maintain his place this season. Veterans Roberto Perez and Austin Wynns are in the mix to make the Opening Day roster, as is Rule 5 pick Blake Sabol -- a strong spring from two of those players could see Bart open the campaign at Triple-A Sacramento.
