Traded to Royals Payamps was traded from the Blue Jays to the Royals on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations.

Impact Payamps will land another spot on a 40-man roster after he was designated for assignment by Toronto on Friday. The right-hander has posted a 2.70 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 30 innings across 22 relief appearances in the majors this year and could join the Royals' bullpen at some point during the second half of the season, but he'll head to Triple-A Omaha for now.

Impact Despite not allowing a run during his last 4.2 innings, Payamps was optioned along with Miguel Castro as Steven Matz (illness) and Adam Cimber were added to the major-league roster. It will mark Payamps first trip back to Triple-A since mid-April, and he should be a candidate to rejoin the Blue Jays should they need to add a bullpen arm later this summer.

Impact Manager Charlie Montoyo said Friday that Payamps had been managing a back injury of late, but the reliever's availability for Saturday's contest implies the issue isn't a major concern. Since being called up from Triple-A Buffalo on April 15, Payamps has compiled a 3.12 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB in 26 innings over 20 appearances.

Impact Payamps has had quite a busy offseason. He started it as a Diamondback before being waived in November and claimed by the Red Sox. The Blue Jays claimed him in mid-February after the Sox waived him, but he'll head right back the other direction less than two weeks later. The righty clearly doesn't have a firm grip on a roster spot but will hope to last the remainder of camp with the Red Sox as he pushes for a bullpen role.
