INJURIES

Notches third save Barlow earned the save during Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Phillies by allowing one unearned run during the 10th inning. He struck out two and didn't record a walk.
Impact The two teams were held scoreless through nine innings, but the Rangers claimed a two-run lead in the top of the 10th thanks a two-run single by Brad Miller. Barlow didn't allow a ball out of the infield during the bottom half of the inning, but Jean Segura -- who started the inning on second -- came around to score on a Odubel Herrera groundout after advancing to third when Didi Gregorius struck out to start the inning. Barlow has recorded saves in three straight appearances and currently sports a 2.16 ERA with a 12:1 K:BB.

Records second save Barlow grabbed the save during Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Phillies with a scoreless ninth inning. He had one strikeout and didn't allow a baserunner.
Impact Barlow needed only eight pitches to retire the side in order and pick up his second save of the season. The 26-year-old was named the team's closer by manager Chris Woodward just over a week ago, and he's converted both his save chances thus far. The right-hander has a 2.45 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 10:1 K:BB through 7.1 innings this season.

Secures first save Barlow earned the save against the Braves on a Saturday with a perfect inning during which he struck out one batter.
Impact Rangers manager Chris Woodward called Barlow the team's closer last weekend, but the right-hander hadn't gotten the chance to prove himself in the role until being called upon Saturday versus the Braves. That was largely due to circumstance -- through their first 20 games, the Rangers had won just six contests and provided only one save opportunity, which went to Matt Bush. Barlow finally got his first chance to close Saturday and did well, needing just 11 pitches to retire the side in order. More opportunities should come in time, and Barlow has demonstrated good stuff so far this season, allowing just five hits while posting a 9:1 K:BB across 6.1 innings.

Viewed as closer Barlow is seen by manager Chris Woodward as the Rangers' closer, though he wasn't available in a save chance Saturday against Oakland after pitching Thursday and getting fully warm...
Impact Woodward said in late March that he didn't want to put Barlow in the closer role right away. He didn't wind up putting anyone else in the role right away, as the team didn't record a save through its first 13 games. Matt Bush got the save opportunity Saturday, but it looks as though Barlow will be the most likely option to get the next chance.

Picks up win Barlow (1-0) allowed one walk and struck out two over a scoreless 1.1 innings to earn the win over Seattle on Thursday.
Impact Barlow was the pitcher warming in the bullpen when Matt Bush was attempting to protect a one-run lead in the eighth inning, but he was needed earlier than anticipated. After the Mariners tied the game against Bush, Barlow shut down the rally then benefited from Texas' two-run, ninth inning rally to pick up his first win of the season. The takeaway here is that Barlow was in position to pick up the save. The Rangers' closer situation has been unsettled, but it looks like Barlow is now in the mix to close games. This, after manager Chris Woodward indicated during spring training that he didn't want to put the pressure of closing games on a reliever with limited MLB experience.

Allows run Thursday Barlow allowed a run on one hit and one walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning in Thursday's spring training game against the Dodgers.
Impact Barlow allowed a run for the third time in four Cactus League appearances and sports a 9.82 ERA over 3.2 innings. He had been the presumed closer until Wednesday, when Rangers manager Chris Woodward told Kennedi Landry of MLB.com that he did not want to use the 26-year-old right-hander in that role right away. The manager cited raised expectations following a rookie season in which Barlow converted 11-of-12 save opportunities. Woodward mentioned Spencer Patton, Matt Bush and Greg Holland as candidates to serve in the ninth inning of games.
APRIL 1, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
May not be Rangers' closer Manager Chris Woodward doesn't want to put Barlow back in the closer's role right away this season, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact Landry said Woodward cited the raised expectations for the club as the reason to use Barlow as more of a fireman. Per Landry, Spencer Patton, Matt Bush or Greg Holland could slide into the ninth-inning role early this season.

Collects 11th save Barlow earned the save against the Angels on Thursday after firing a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Impact Barlow entered the ninth inning with Texas holding onto a one-run lead and retired all three batters in just nine pitches, including a strikeout of Max Stassi. The save was Barlow's eighth straight -- and his 11th of a successful season -- during which he's pitched to the tune of a 1.55 ERA and 0.83 WHIP.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Registers save No. 10 Barlow allowed one hit but pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 10th save of the year in a 5-2 win over the Angels on Tuesday.
Impact Barlow pitched around an infield single to protect a three-run lead and convert the save. The 26-year-old had one blowup outing against the Rockies at the very beginning of the month but has otherwise converted seven saves and owns a 0.93 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in his 11 other appearances in September. He's been fantastic since taking over the closer role and could still add another save or two to his resume over the final five games of the year.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Converts save No. 9 Barlow recorded the final out of Sunday's 7-4 win over Baltimore via strikeout to earn the save.
Impact Pedro Severino's two-run home run off Kolby Allard made it a three-run game, and Barlow entered the contest after Jahmai Jones drew a walk. Barlow was able to strike out Ryan McKenna to end the threat. The right-hander is up to nine saves this year, all earned within his last 15 appearances. He's pitched to a 1.67 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 26:12 K:BB across 27 innings overall while taking on the closer role in Texas in his first big-league season.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Locks down eighth save Barlow walked one and struck out one in one inning, earning the save in Friday's 8-5 win over Baltimore.
Impact Texas trailed for most of the game, but a five-run rally for the lead in the ninth inning made Barlow's services necessary. The right-hander has yielded six runs (three earned) across nine innings in September, but those have all come in just two of his 10 appearances. He's posted a tiny 1.69 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB through 26.2 innings while adding eight saves and three holds in 28 appearances.
SEPTEMBER 25, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Secures another save Barlow pitching a perfect inning against the White Sox on Saturday, striking out two to earn the save.
Impact The right-hander threw 10 of 14 pitches for strikes and fanned two of the three batters he faced. Barlow has been dominant of late, holding opponents to no runs and just three hits over his past seven outings. Since Sept. 8 he has collected four saves in four chances, strengthening his claim for the team's closer role beyond the remainder of the current campaign.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Notches save No. 6 Barlow fired a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in the win over the Athletics on Sunday.
Impact Barlow entered the ninth inning with a one run lead. He retired the side in order to earn his sixth save of the season. He has three saves in his last three appearances dating back to Sept. 8. The rookie has allowed just four earned runs all season, good for a 1.59 ERA and 0.88 WHIP over 22.2 innings.
SEPTEMBER 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up fifth save Barlow allowed a hit and nothing more over an inning of work, picking up the save in Saturday's 8-6 win over the Athletics.
Impact Barlow navigated around a Seth Brown single to obtain his fifth save of the season. Through 23 appearances this year, the rookie right-hander has allowed earned runs in only three outings. He figures to be one of the Rangers' top closing options to finish off the season.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Snags one-out save Barlow retired the only batter he faced to earn the save in Wednesday's 8-5 win over Arizona.
Impact Demarcus Evans made things interesting in a non-save situation, which allowed Barlow to enter with a three-run lead to nab his fourth save of the year. The 25-year-old has emerged as one of Texas' top closing options with a 1.74 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB through 20.2 innings. He's logged three holds, a blown save and an 0-2 record in addition to his four saves in 22 appearances.
SEPTEMBER 9, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Blows first save Barlow (0-2) took the loss Wednesday as the Rangers fell 9-5 to the Rockies, coughing up five runs (two earned) on one hit and two walks in two-thirds of an inning to blow his firs...
Impact The right-hander was called upon to protect a one-run lead in the ninth, and while three Texas errors behind him didn't help matters, Barlow's back-to-back walks with one out set the stage for Colorado's rally. One bad outing likely won't jeopardize his spot as the primary closing option for the Rangers, and the 25-year-old rookie still sports a 1.96 ERA and 20:9 K:BB through 18.1 innings.
SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up save in return Barlow secured his third save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Rockies on Monday. He needed just seven pitches to get through three batters, as he threw a perfect inning.
Impact Monday was Barlow's first appearance since Aug. 19 after he spent some time on the 10-day injured list for a finger blister. The 25-year-old was thrown right back into the closer's role upon return and was able to shut down the Rockies for his third save in as many attempts. Barlow now owns a 1.02 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB over 17.2 innings and figured to remain the team's ninth-inning man until a reason should come up for change.
AUGUST 31, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Returns from injured list Barlow (finger) was activated off the 10-day injured list Monday.
Impact Barlow wound up missing just the minimum 10 days while recovering from a blister. He recorded saves in two of his last three appearances before hitting the injured list, so it's possible he could return to the ninth inning going forward.
AUGUST 30, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Out with blister Barlow landed on the 10-day injured list due to a blister Friday.
Impact Barlow appeared to be emerging as one of the top closer candidates in Texas, recording the team's last two saves, but he won't see any more time in the ninth or any other inning for at least 10 days. Nick Snyder's contract was selected to take his place in the bullpen.
AUGUST 20, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Converts another save Barlow struck out a batter and worked around a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning to notch his second save of the season in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Athletics.
Impact The Rangers' closing situation has been a difficult one to pin down since Ian Kennedy was dealt to Philadelphia on July 30, but Barlow appears to have at least temporarily seized hold of the ninth-inning gig. After converting a relatively stress-free save Friday, Barlow got the job done again two days later, turning in another scoreless ninth. Though he'll need to turn in a few more clean outings to build up job security, Barlow is worthy of a speculative pickup for fantasy managers that are desperate to make up ground in the saves category.

Levi Weaver: Meanwhile, Joe Barlow works a scoreless ninth... - The Athletic Meanwhile, Joe Barlow works a scoreless ninth to pick up his second save and drop his ERA to a brilliant 0.61 for the season.
AUGUST 15, 2021 • THEATHLETIC.COM
Notches first save Barlow walked one batter in a scoreless ninth inning in Friday's win over Oakland. He struck out one and earned the save.
Impact Barlow worked around a one-out walk to secure the 8-6 win and pick up his first big-league save. The 25-year-old righty has been tremendous since debuting in June, allowing just one run through 13.2 innings (0.66 ERA) with an 18:6 K:BB. Barlow tallied seven saves with a 2.57 ERA this season with Triple-A Round Rock this season and he could force his way into more ninth-inning looks down the stretch.
AUGUST 14, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sets club record Barlow pitched a perfect inning and collected a hold Tuesday, striking out two Angels and setting a new club record for consecutive strikeouts in the process.
Impact When Barlow struck out Jack Mayfield leading off the eighth inning, it was his eighth straight whiff spread across five relief appearances, breaking the club record of seven (which had been shared by three pitchers, including Nolan Ryan). Barlow has also collected a hold in three straight outings, and with a 0.93 ERA and 0.62 WHIP across the first 9.2 innings of his big-league career, he's already looking like one of the top arms in the Rangers' bullpen. Spencer Patton is first in line for saves right now, but if he stumbles, Barlow could be next in line.
AUGUST 3, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Makes MLB debut Barlow struck out two over a scoreless eighth inning in Thursday's 5-1 loss to Oakland.
Impact Barlow had his contract selected earlier this week and made his big-league debut Thursday. He operated as a closer for Triple-A Round Rock but is expected to pitch in low-leverage situations for now.
