GAME LOG

INJURIES

No longer starting Sunday Alexander will not start Sunday's game against the Giants, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact The Brewers will start Aaron Ashby on short rest instead, though a reason for the pitching change was not announced. Something may be off with Alexander -- he threw only 73 pitches across four innings in a rain-shortened outing Tuesday and Ashby just threw 101 pitches Wednesday.
JULY 17, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Rain-shortened start Tuesday Alexander allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one in four innings of a 6-3 win Tuesday in Minnesota. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Alexander gave up a solo shot to Jorge Polanco to lead off the second inning. In the fourth, he allowed a walk and two singles with two outs to account for the other run. He did not come back out for the fifth inning, having tossed only 73 pitches, following the game's second rain delay at the end of the fourth. The rookie has struggled of late, giving up 17 runs (15 earned) on four homers and a 10:8 K: BB in 17.2 innings over five appearances.
JULY 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Receiving another start Alexander is listed as the Brewers' scheduled starting pitcher for Tuesday's game in Minnesota, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact Alexander will be making his second straight turn through the rotation and his seventh start with the big club overall, despite being tagged for seven runs (six earned) across 5.1 innings his last time out July 5 against the Cubs. With Adrian Houser (elbow) on the shelf through the All-Star break, Alexander tentatively lines up for two starts this week, with his second outing set to come Sunday in San Francisco.
JULY 11, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Hit hard by Cubs Alexander (2-1) took the loss during Tuesday's 8-3 defeat at the hands of the Cubs, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
Impact Alexander kept Chicago off the board through three innings but surrendered one run in the fourth and three apiece in the fifth and sixth to fall in line for the loss. The 29-year-old tossed 60 of 94 pitches for strikes, however only two were of the swinging variety and he recorded two strikeouts or fewer for the sixth time in eight appearances. Alexander should stick in the rotation while Adrian Houser (elbow) is sidelined and is slated to start again next week against Minnesota.
JULY 6, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Rejoining rotation Alexander is listed as the Brewers' starting pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Cubs in Milwaukee.
Impact Alexander made his last two appearances out of the Milwaukee bullpen, but he'll be plugged back into the rotation this week with the team in need of a fifth starter after Adrian Houser (elbow) landed on the 15-day injured list Friday. Over his five starts prior to moving to the bullpen, Alexander turned in a 3.21 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 13:11 K:BB in 28 innings.
JULY 4, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Works out of bullpen Alexander appeared in relief Tuesday in the Brewers' 5-3 win over the Rays, recording two outs while allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and two walks.
Impact Alexander had started in each of his first five appearances with Milwaukee and posted a 3.21 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over those outings, but he looks as though he'll move to the bullpen after the Brewers welcomed Brandon Woodruff back from the injured list Tuesday. Milwaukee still has room in the rotation for a fifth starter while both Freddy Peralta (lat) and Aaron Ashby (forearm) remain on the IL, but Chi Chi Gonzalez looks like he'll take on that role rather than Alexander.
JUNE 30, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Earns win Thursday Alexander (2-1) secured the win against St. Louis on Thursday, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five.
Impact Alexander gave up a pair of first-inning runs but settled down thereafter to allow only two more runs the rest of the way. The right-hander registered a mere five swinging strikes but nonetheless managed a career-high five punchouts. Alexander's lack of strikeout upside limits his fantasy value, but he has thus far registered a solid 3.21 ERA through 28 major-league innings while picking up two straight wins. His 1.64 WHIP and 3.5 BB/9 provide reason to temper expectations, however.
JUNE 24, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up first win Alexander (1-0) earned the win against the Reds on Saturday, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking one in 5.2 innings.
Impact Saturday's start was Alexander's fourth of the season. He threw 50 of 80 pitches for strikes, walking just one batter. Although he allowed eight hits, he limited the damage to just two earned runs and three total runs and picked up the win. Alexander will carry a 2.42 ERA into his next appearance.
JUNE 19, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Yields one run in no-decision Alexander allowed one run on seven hits and three walks over 4.2 innings in Sunday's win over Washington. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Alexander escaped a few jams before the Nationals finally broke through in the fifth inning with Josh Bell's RBI sacrifice fly that knocked Alexander from the game. He's now allowed two or fewer earned runs in each of his first three MLB starts. The 29-year-old is sporting a 2.16 ERA with a lackluster 6:8 K:BB through 16.2 frames. Alexander is expected to start in Cincinnati next week.
JUNE 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Tosses five innings versus Phillies Alexander pitched five innings, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks while striking out one in the loss to the Phillies on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Alexander surrendered a sacrifice fly to Bryce Harper in the top of the third inning, accounting for the only run against him Tuesday. He has now pitched 12 innings over his first two career starts, giving up just three runs combined. With Brandon Woodruff (ankle) expected to return soon, Alexander may not get another turn in the rotation before returning to Triple-A Nashville, but he has certainly earned more opportunities down the line.
JUNE 8, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Slated to start Tuesday Alexander will start Tuesday's game against the Phillies, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact Alexander posted a quality start during his major-league debut Wednesday against the Cubs, as he allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out three in seven innings. The right-hander will be rewarded with another turn in the major-league rotation, but it's possible that he heads back to the minors following Tuesday's start since Brandon Woodruff (ankle) hopes to return after a minimal IL stint.
JUNE 4, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Tosses quality start in MLB debut Alexander did not factor in the decision against the Cubs on Wednesday, completing seven innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking o...
Impact Alexander looked like he could be in for a short big-league debut after allowing the first three batters he faced to reach base and yielding a pair of runs in the first inning. However, the 29-year-old settled in from there and allowed only one run the rest of way, giving Milwaukee seven innings on a relatively efficient 97 pitches. Alexander notched only four swinging strikes among those pitches, so he was far from dominant, but he may have earned another turn in the rotation with the effective outing. That Alexander made a start in the majors at all is no small feat -- the right-hander went undrafted out of both high school and college and was released from the Angels organization in 2020 before finally getting his big-league opportunity with Milwaukee.
JUNE 2, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Promoted for Wednesday's start Alexander had his contract selected from Triple-A Nashville ahead of his start against the Cubs on Wednesday.
Impact The Brewers announced Alexander as Wednesday's starter following Tuesday's loss in Chicago, and he's now officially been added to the 40-man roster. The 29-year-old has a 2.64 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 33:12 K:BB across 47.2 innings for Nashville this season, and with a decent performance he could receive additional opportunities in Milwaukee's rotation since Brandon Woodruff (ankle) and Freddy Peralta (lat) are sidelined.
