Throws seven shutout innings Odorizzi allowed two hits and two walks while striking out eight in seven scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Sunday.
Impact Odorizzi left his last start after developing a blister and yielding six runs in five innings versus the Athletics. He responded with a stellar start, his second of at least seven frames with no runs allowed in five July outings. The right-hander was denied the win when Jesse Winker took Ryne Stanek deep for a game-tying home run in the eighth. Odorizzi now has a 3.75 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 46:17 K:BB in 60 innings across 12 starts this year. He's lined up for a road start in Cleveland next weekend.

Early exit linked to blister Astros manager Dusty Baker said after Monday's 7-5 loss to the Athletics that Odorizzi dealt with a blister on his right middle finger prior to exiting the contest, Chandler Rome o...
Impact According to Rome, Odorizzi first noticed the blister in the second inning and had the training staff pop it with a needle two innings later. The right-hander was forced to pitch through some discomfort and was ultimately lifted after giving up six earned runs over five innings en route to taking the loss. Baker said he's uncertain if the blister will affect Odorizzi's next turn through the rotation, which is tentatively set to come Sunday versus Seattle.

Fans five in no-decision Odorizzi allowed three runs on five hits and a hit batsman while striking out five in 5.1 innings in a 4-3 loss Sunday against Oakland. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Odorizzi was excellent through the first five innings, holding Oakland scoreless and retiring the side in order three times. After getting the first batter out in the sixth, he gave up a solo shot to Ramon Laureano and then consecutive singles and was taken out. After walking seven batters in his first three starts, the 32-year-old has issued just seven free passes in his last seven outings, spanning 39 innings. In that time he has a 2.31 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 31 strikeouts.

Impact Quality of opponent aside, this was a convincing performance for Odorizzi after he struggled in his first game back from ligaments strains and sprains in his lower right leg. He posted his longest start of the year with a season high in strikeouts. The right-hander has been generally effective with a 3.38 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 31:14 K:BB across 42.2 innings in nine starts overall.
