Stymies Atlanta for 10th victory Irvin (10-12) earned the win over Atlanta on Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five batters over six innings.

Impact Irvin retired the first 10 batters he faced and was working on a no-hitter until Atlanta finally got to him for consecutive doubles in the sixth inning. The right-hander emerged with his first quality start since Aug. 13, which was also the date of his most recent win prior to Wednesday. Irvin had been struggling prior to this excellent outing, as he had surrendered 13 runs across 9.2 frames in his previous two starts. He's fallen off in the second half after a strong beginning to the campaign, but he still has 10 wins and a tolerable 4.19 ERA overall.

Impact Irvin was staked to an early three-run lead but gave up a five spot in the second as he allowed three walks and four singles as the Pirates sent 10 men to the plate. It was the second-consecutive outing Irvin allowed 10 batters to reach base while allowing 13 runs over 9.2 innings during his last two starts, raising his ERA nearly a half run from 3.80 to 4.28. Irvin will look to pull things back together during his next start, currently slated to take place in a home matchup against Atlanta.
