Impact The Twins have seemingly settled on Cave as the primary replacement in center field for the injured Byron Buxton (shoulder). Since Buxton was placed on the injured list Thursday, Cave has started every game in center, going 4-for-13 with five strikeouts.

Impact Cave got the start in right field with Max Kepler getting a day off. After getting three hits in his first two games, including a home run, Cave is just 1-for-19 over his last six games with two walks. With Byron Buxton healthy, Cave has moved to a reserve role and will get occasional starts.

Impact Cave gets the start with Byron Buxton still sidelined with a foot injury. It's odd that Cave is in center field, as last year he typically started in right field with Max Kepler moving to center field when Buxton was out. Either way, Cave looks set for some short-term playing time until Buxton is ready to return to the starting lineup.

Impact Cave was on the roster bubble in spring training, but he'll make the expanded 30-man roster to begin the regular season. If Buxton isn't able to play when the regular season begins, the Twins will either move Max Kepler to center field and allow Cave to play right field or start LaMonte Wade in center field.

Diagnosed with mid-foot sprain Buxton was diagnosed with a left mid-foot sprain Tuesday and is considered day-to-day, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Impact Buxton was carted off the field during Monday's intrasquad matchup with a left foot injury, but he appears to have avoided anything too serious as he'll continue to be evaluated on a daily basis. However, the 26-year-old could potentially miss the start of the regular season as a result of the sprain. If he's unable to suit up by Opening Day, Marwin Gonzalez and Jake Cave could see an uptick in playing time.
