Jacob Young drives in go-ahead run as Nationals rally past Reds 5-4

Jacob Young hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning, Lane Thomas bolstered his trade stock with a run-scoring double and the Washington Nationals rallied past the Cincinn...

Two steals in Friday's win Young went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two stolen bases in Friday's win over the Reds.
Impact The Nationals ran wild on Tyler Stephenson and Cincy's pitching staff, going 5-for-5 in steal attempts on the night. Young had only one stolen base and zero multi-hit performances over his last 16 games before the All-Star break, a stretch in which he slashed a rough .151/.237/.170, but his defense in center field has kept him in the lineup despite his struggles at the plate.

Swipes bag No. 20 Young went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 14-6 win over the Cardinals.
Impact The 24-year-old center fielder doesn't offer much with his bat while hitting at the bottom of the order for the Nationals, but Young continues to cause a nuisance when he reaches base. Through 78 big-league games this season he's slashing .261/.321/.327 with one homer, 18 RBI, 45 runs and 20 steals in 25 attempts. Washington's youth movement is in full swing, but Young isn't necessarily guaranteed to keep his spot in the starting lineup as Dylan Crews could be the next prospect the team brings up to The Show.

Launches first homer Young went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's win against Miami.
Impact Young launched the first home run of his career, a fifth-inning blast off Marlins starter Jesus Luzardo. Even with minimal power, the 24-year-old has carved out an everyday role due to his high average and ability to steal bases. Young has played in 60 games on the season, batting .265 with one home run, 17 RBI, 31 runs scored and 17 stolen bases in 21 attempts.

Exits with trainer Young was removed from Saturday's game against the Guardians with an undisclosed injury, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Impact A trainer tended to Young while the Nationals made a pitching change in the bottom of the sixth inning before walking Young off the field. Eddie Rosario will fill center field while Joey Gallo enters the game in left. It's unclear exactly what type of injury Young is dealing with, but we should learn more later Saturday.

Steals 17th bag Young went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's win over Atlanta.
Impact The 24-year-old center fielder has heated up again, batting .345 (10-for-29) over the last 10 games. Young remains limited as a fantasy asset -- he has yet to hit a homer this year and has a 4.5 percent walk rate -- but he tends to take full advantage when he does get on base. He's slashing .279/.338/.329 through 46 big-league games with 17 steals in 20 attempts, plus 14 RBI and 25 runs.

Nabs fifth steal Young went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the A's.
Impact Hitting leadoff against southpaw Alex Wood with CJ Abrams bumped down the two-hole, Young remained hot as he produced his third multi-hit game in his last four starts. While the Nationals have seen a lot of left-handed pitching lately, Young has also drawn into the lineup against righties and appears to be seizing the starting job in center field. Since his early April promotion, the 24-year-old is batting .250 (7-for-28) with two doubles, two RBI, five runs and five steals (on five attempts) in nine contests.

Headed to majors Young will be recalled by the Nationals prior to Thursday's game versus the Pirates, Grant Paulsen of MLB Network Radio reports.
Impact Victor Robles (hamstring) is headed to the injured list and Young will be his replacement. Young is a candidate to slide right into Robles' vacated role as the short side of a platoon in center field with Eddie Rosario. The speedy 24-year-old stole 13 bases without being caught in 33 games with the Nats in 2023, but he might not play enough to help out fantasy managers in the steals category in the immediate future.
APRIL 4, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
In mix for center field gig Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Wednesday that Young is competing with Victor Robles for the center field job, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Martinez acknowledged that Robles will enter spring training with a slight advantage for the gig, but the manager was impressed with the first impression Young made down the stretch last season. Young slashed just .252/.322/.336 in 33 games with the Nationals but went 13-for-13 in stolen base attempts after swiping 39 bags over three levels in the minors. Whether he'll ultimately be able to hit enough to take advantage of his speed is the question.
FEBRUARY 15, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Swipes two bags Friday Young went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases in Friday's 10-6 win over Atlanta.
Impact He swiped his ninth and 10th bags of the season, the first coming after he beat out a potential double-play grounder in the third inning. Young raced through three levels of the minors this season before making his big-league debut and went 49-for-56 on the basepaths across all his stops, but his lack of power (just six homers in 143 games) and a .242/.312/.333 slash line through his first 112 plate appearances in the majors make it unclear whether he'll be in the line for a starting role with the Nats in 2024.

Two hits and a steal in loss Young went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two stolen bases in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.
Impact Young continues to impress since being called up Aug. 26. The 23-year-old has recorded a hit in 11 straight games and has multiple hits in three of his last five. He's been batting leadoff against lefties and is now a perfect 4-of-4 in stolen base attempts. Young should continue to see a near everyday role down the final stretch of the season with the Nationals having nothing to play for.

Rookie Jacob Young's single concludes the Nationals' rally for a 3-2 win over the Mets

Rookie Jacob Young grounded a game-ending single through a drawn-in infield, and the Washington Nationals rallied past the New York Mets 3-2 to end a six-game skid
SEPTEMBER 7, 2023 • Associated Press
Thrives in leadoff spot Young went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Tuesday's 11-5 loss to the Mets.
Impact With Lane Thomas (back) sidelined and lefty Jose Quintana on the mound for New York, Young got his first career start as the leadoff hitter and made the most of his opportunity. CJ Abrams will continue to hit atop the order against righties, but Young could become an intriguing DFS option if he keeps this assignment against future southpaws. The 24-year-old rookie has hit safely in seven straight games, batting .333 (8-for-24) over that stretch with three doubles, three runs, three RBI and two steals.
