INJURIES

Reinstated for Tuesday's start Ryu (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of his start against the Orioles on Tuesday.
Impact The left-hander will make his season debut Tuesday against Baltimore after completing his rehab and recovery from Tommy John surgery. Ryu threw 85 pitches over six innings during his final minor-league rehab outing, but he's still likely to face some minor workload limitations in his first start back.

LHP Hyun Jin Ryu set to rejoin Blue Jays' rotation Tuesday against Orioles

Left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu is set to return to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday against Baltimore, manager John Schneider said Friday
JULY 28, 2023 • Associated Press
Starting for Blue Jays on Tuesday Ryu (elbow) will make his season debut for the Blue Jays on Tuesday against the Orioles, Keegan Matheson reports.
Impact Ryu made his final rehab start a week ago but has been throwing on the side with the Blue Jays since then. We now know what day he'll rejoin what will be a six-man rotation for the Jays for a while as they go through a stretch with no off days. Ryu pitched well on his rehab assignment and will not be under a strict pitch limit versus Baltimore.
JULY 28, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Throwing bullpen session Ryu (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday at Dodger Stadium, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact The Blue Jays have also officially confirmed that Ryu will not start this weekend against the Angels. When exactly he will make his 2023 debut with the big club isn't known yet, but it could come as soon as early next week. Ryu -- who is coming back from Tommy John surgery -- pitched well on his rehab assignment, although his velocity was down a tick.
JULY 26, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Unlikely to return over weekend Ryu (elbow) isn't expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list during Toronto's weekend series against the Angels, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact Ryu is slated to throw a bullpen either Monday or Tuesday, but the team doesn't expect him back in the starting rotation until next week. The Blue Jays may have a better idea of when the southpaw will make his 2023 season debut following his upcoming side session.
JULY 25, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Side session on tap Ryu (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session in Los Angeles on Monday or Tuesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact The upcoming side session will likely serve as a final check of Ryu's health before the Blue Jays bring him back from the 60-day injured list. After working six innings in his fourth and likely final rehab start Friday at Triple-A Buffalo, Ryu would be available to return from the IL on Wednesday against the Dodgers, but the Blue Jays are instead expected to save him for their series with the Angels next weekend. With Friday's game versus the Angels kicking off a stretch of 17 games in 17 days, Ryu could be part of a modified six-man Toronto rotation once he's activated.
JULY 23, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Joining team, with return imminent Ryu (elbow) will join the Blue Jays in Los Angeles on Monday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Impact Ryu looked good in his fourth rehab start Friday and his next-day recovery has gone well. The date for Ryu's return to Toronto's rotation has not been officially set, as the team wants to get an in-person look at him first. The left-hander's season debut for the Blue Jays is expected next week, though, and he would be on regular rest Wednesday after his former team, the Dodgers.

JULY 22, 2023 • BLUEJAYSNATION.COM
Logs fourth rehab start Ryu (elbow) allowed two earned runs over six innings in his fourth rehab start Friday with Triple-A Buffalo, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Impact Ryu yielded only three hits and one walk while recording five strikeouts in the 85-pitch outing against the Triple-A affiliate of the Mets. He averaged 88.4 mph with his fastball but touched 90.8 mph at one point. Now more than 13 months removed from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, the veteran left-hander could join the Blue Jays' starting rotation as early as next week.
JULY 22, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Final rehab start on tap Ryu (elbow) is slated to throw at least 80 pitches with Triple-A Buffalo on Friday in what is expected to be his final rehab start, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact Ryu's fastball has sat in the 87-88 mph range during his first three rehab outings, which is down just a bit from what he was throwing pre-Tommy John surgery. The Blue Jays aren't concerned about the southpaw's velocity, though, and they expect it to tick back up. Ryu has permitted just two runs with an 11:0 K:BB across 12 innings in his first three rehab starts. He's a good stash in leagues where he's still available.

JULY 16, 2023 • BLUEJAYSNATION.COM
Looks good again in rehab start Ryu (elbow) struck out five over five innings of one-run ball in a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Impact Ryu threw 66 pitches -- 46 of which went for strikes -- while yielding three hits and no walks. This was the veteran left-hander's first start with Buffalo after he allowed a total of just one run over seven innings in starts with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays and Low-A Dunedin. Ryu will need another rehab start in order to continue building up his pitch count, but that might be the final one before he rejoins Toronto's rotation.
JULY 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Rehab start Saturday at Triple-A Ryu (elbow) will make a rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday with the goal of throwing around 65 pitches, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact According to Zwelling, Ryu is expected to make at least two starts for the Bisons before returning to the big leagues, and the team would like to see him up over 85 pitches in an outing before activating him. The veteran southpaw has been effective thus far in his two lower-level rehab starts, but his fastball was apparently topping out around 88 mph, which is down a couple ticks from where he was pre-injury. It sounds like he is tracking toward a late-July return to the Jays' rotation.
JULY 14, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Remains sharp in latest rehab start Ryu (elbow) struck out one over four scoreless innings in his most recent rehab start Sunday with Single-A Dunedin, scattering three hits and issuing no walks.
Impact Making his second rehab start as he builds back up following his Tommy John surgery last June, Ryu spotted 27 of his 37 pitches for strikes and generated four swings and misses on the day. According to Mitch Bannon of SI.com, Ryu's fastball topped out at 88.4 miles per hour, about a tick below his average from the 2022 season. The 36-year-old lefty doesn't need premium velocity to find success, so as long as he continues to show strong command and control in his subsequent rehab outings, the Blue Jays will likely be comfortable finding a spot for him in their rotation. Since he'll likely need at least two more rehab starts to get fully stretched out, Ryu shouldn't be expected to return from the 60-day injured list any earlier than the final week of July.

Impact Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Ryu yielded four hits, didn't walk anyone and faced 13 batters over his three frames. He will move up to higher affiliates as the Blue Jays see fit and could be ready to rejoin the major-league rotation within the month.
JULY 4, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Cleared for rehab starts Ryu (elbow) is set to begin a minor-league rehab assignment next Tuesday, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
Impact It has yet to be determined where his first rehab outing will take place, but Ryu is finally ready to return to live action more than 12 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his left elbow. The veteran southpaw could be a candidate for the Blue Jays' starting rotation before the end of July if all goes well on the farm.
JUNE 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Facing hitters Thursday Ryu (elbow) will throwing a live batting practice session Thursday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact Ryu wouldn't seem to be too far off from beginning a rehab assignment, although the target date for that hasn't been established yet. The veteran left-hander is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and could conceivably be ready to rejoin the Blue Jays' rotation shortly after the All-Star break.

Injured Blue Jay Hyun-Jin Ryu hopes to return after all-star break Post-Tommy John surgery, the one-time ace is rehabbing in Florida with an eye toward the latter half of the season.
MAY 24, 2023 • THESTAR.COM
Throwing bullpen sessions Ryu (elbow) has been throwing bullpen sessions at the Blue Jays' spring training complex in Florida, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Impact General manager Ross Atkins said Monday that Ryu "could be facing hitters and be in games" next month. The veteran left-hander had Tommy John surgery last June and is aiming to rejoin the Blue Jays' rotation around the All-Star break.
MAY 15, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Transferred to 60-day IL Ryu was transferred to the 60-day injured list by the Blue Jays on Wednesday with a left elbow UCL tear.
Impact The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim Jordan Luplow. Ryu is still working his way back from Tommy John surgery and will be out until around midseason.
APRIL 5, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Placed on 15-day IL Ryu was placed on the 15-day injured list by the Blue Jays on Thursday with a left elbow UCL tear, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
Impact While he's only going on the 15-day IL for now, Ryu should eventually move to the 60-day IL when the Jays need the 40-man roster spot. The left-hander is hoping to make it back from Tommy John surgery by July.

MARCH 30, 2023 • SPORTINGNEWS.COM
Aiming for April mound work Ryu (elbow) hopes to throw his first post-Tommy John surgery bullpen session sometime in April, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Impact Ryu is currently throwing on flat ground from 90-120 feet as he moves along in his rehab. The veteran lefty said through an interpreter that he hopes to rejoin the Blue Jays' rotation "sometime in mid-July." That would be right at 13 months after his Tommy John surgery, which is a relatively fast return for a starting pitcher. Toronto, for what it's worth, has a "loose date in mind" for Ryu's return, but it's a "moving target," per Matheson.
