Slated for bullpen session Greene (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Impact It would appear to be the first time he's thrown off a mound since he went down with right elbow inflammation in mid-August. As long as Greene gets through Thursday's bullpen session with no hiccups, he will have another one Sunday. The righty will continue to be built back up as he aims to rejoin the Reds' rotation before the end of the season, but he would appear to still be at least a couple weeks away.

Resumes throwing program Greene (elbow) has resumed a throwing program, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Impact Greene was shut down for two weeks while dealing with right elbow inflammation but has been cleared to ramp things back up. Reds manager David Bell said Friday that the club is working on a potential target date for the right-hander to return this season. Greene still has numerous boxes to check before he can rejoin the Reds' rotation, but this is welcomed news for the young hurler.

Impact The Reds received good news on the injury a week ago, but the team and Greene sought more opinions. Three separate doctors have confirmed the inflammation diagnosis. From here, the right-hander will need at least two weeks for the swelling to subside before he begins throwing. The timeline for a return to action remains unclear.

Impact Greene, who was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday, declined to comment on the injury until the results of the MRI are known. Cincinnati manager David Bell sounded an optimistic note. "I would say initially, from what I've heard, it's good," Bell said. "But it's at least going to be the 15 days. I do believe there's a lot of hope to get him back after that." Bell has not yet determined who will take Greene's spot in the rotation Monday, and the team's starting depth is thin due to injuries to Graham Ashcraft (elbow) and Brandon Williamson (shoulder). Impact Greene has been one of the National League's best pitchers this season, boasting a 2.83 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP and a 162:53 K:BB across 143.1 innings. For the first time this year, Greene will be forced to the injured list after experiencing pain in the elbow of his throwing arm following Tuesday's outing.
