Quickly ascending leverage ladder
Gaddis walked one and struck out two in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn his fifth hold of the season Saturday versus the Athletics.
Impact
Gaddis had struggled primarily as a starter over parts of the last two seasons, but he's thriving as a reliever so far. He's got a 15:3 K:BB while allowing just four hits and no runs over 10.2 innings to begin the campaign. Gaddis was expected to be more of a middle reliever initially, but he's looking more like a setup man after his hot start, which is especially impressive considering how strong the Guardians' bullpen has been. Gaddis has also been able to unlock more velocity in shorter outings -- per Statcast, his fastball is averaging 96.3 mph this year after sitting at 93.4 mph over the previous two years. He's also tightened his pitch arsenal, dropping his curveball and cutter while using his slider and changeup as his offspeed offerings.

Optioned to Triple-A
Gaddis was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Friday.
Impact
Gaddis was recalled ahead of his start Thursday. He pitched three scoreless innings versus the Orioles, but was taken out after taking a hit off of his leg. With Shane Bieber (elbow) returning from the 60-day injured list, the 25-year-old was optioned back down.

Goes three innings in start
Gaddis allowed a hit and two walks while striking out one over three scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Thursday.
Impact
Gaddis ended up covering the most innings of any Cleveland pitcher, but it was more of an opening assignment. He made just two appearances with Triple-A Columbus while he was with the affiliate for three weeks, allowing two runs over 7.2 innings. In the majors, he has a pedestrian 4.50 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 24:14 K:BB across 42 innings over 11 appearances (seven starts). With Shane Bieber (elbow) and Triston McKenzie (elbow) returning and the Guardians having two off days next week, Gaddis will probably not be needed to start again in 2023.

Recalled for start Thursday
Gaddis was recalled from Triple-A Columbus ahead of his start Thursday versus the Orioles.
Impact
Gaddis has struggled to a 6.14 ERA in 73.1 innings this season at the Triple-A level and owns an ugly 6.99 ERA and 28:15 K:BB in 46.1 career major-league frames. The 25-year-old right-hander is not a recommended fantasy streamer against Baltimore.

Getting start for Guardians
Gaddis will be recalled from Triple-A Columbus to start for the Guardians on Thursday against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact
It had been Tanner Bibee's turn, but he's done for the season with a hip injury. Gaddis has put up a 4.85 ERA over 10 appearances (six starts) with Cleveland this season. He might receive just the one start, as Triston McKenzie (elbow) appears poised to return next week.

Optioned to Triple-A
Gaddis was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Impact
Gaddis picked up a win in a three-inning relief outing in his last appearance but now finds himself back in the minors following the Guardians' waiver claim bonanza. He's posted a 4.85 ERA over 10 appearances (six starts) for Cleveland this season.

Earns win after call-up
Gaddis (2-1) allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out two over three innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Twins.
Impact
Gaddis was called up to take Daniel Norris' spot on the 26-man roster earlier in the day. Gaddis had previously served as the 27th man during last Thursday's doubleheader, making him eligible for a call-up. He's now at a 4.85 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 23:12 K:BB through 39 innings over 10 outings (six starts) in the majors this year. Gavin Williams (knee) exited Tuesday's start after one inning, and Gaddis would be among a handful of options to fill a vacancy in the rotation if Williams misses additional time, though Cal Quantrill (shoulder) is expected to be back from the injured list Friday.

Returns to Triple-A
The Guardians optioned Gaddis to Triple-A Columbus on Friday.
Impact
Gaddis was sent back to the minors one day after being called up to serve as the 27th man for the Guardians' doubleheader with the Dodgers. The 25-year-old worked 4.2 innings out of the bullpen in Thursday's 9-3 loss, giving up two earned runs on seven hits and two walks while failing to record a strikeout.

Brought up as 27th man
The Guardians added Gaddis from Triple-A Columbus to serve as their 27th man Thursday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Because Wednesday's game with the Dodgers ended up spilling into Thursday due to rain, the Guardians will be allowed to use Gaddis as an extra man in their bullpen. The 25-year-old righty has put up a 5.17 ERA and 1.21 WHIP through 31.1 frames in the majors this season, and he will likely return to Columbus immediately after Thursday's contest.

Sent back to Triple-A
The Guardians optioned Gaddis to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.
Impact
Gaddis was called up from Columbus and was designated as the Guardians' 27th man for Friday's doubleheader with the Tigers, but he didn't appear in either contest before being returned to the minors a day later. He went on to appear out of the bullpen for Columbus on Sunday, giving up one run over two innings in a 9-2 loss to Syracuse.

Sent to minors
The Guardians optioned Gaddis to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Gaddis has been very inconsistent in the majors this season -- he has three scoreless multi-inning appearances alongside four starts in which he allowed three runs or more. If he's able to right the ship in Triple-A, there's a chance he returns to Cleveland's bullpen later this season. For now, Michael Kelly will take Gaddis' spot after being selected from Columbus on Saturday.

Three strikeouts in no-decision
Gaddis did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings against the Cardinals. He struck out three.
Impact
Gaddis allowed three solo home runs to the Cardinals but was let off the hook thanks to a walk-off, two-run double by Jose Ramirez. The right-hander sports a 5.72 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB across six starts (28.1 innings), but he's likely transitioning to a relief role or heading back to Triple-A Columbus soon, as Aaron Civale (oblique) and Triston McKenzie (shoulder) are both nearing a return to MLB.

Draws another start
Gaddis is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Cardinals at Progressive Field.
Impact
Though Aaron Civale (oblique) is available on normal rest Sunday and built up to 69 pitches in his latest rehab start at Triple-A Columbus, the Guardians seem to be leaning toward having him make another start in the minors prior to bringing him back from the 15-day injured list. As a result, Gaddis will get the opportunity to build on his strong showing in his return to the big leagues Monday, when he tossed six scoreless innings in a win over the White Sox. With Civale closing in on a return and Triston McKenzie (shoulder) not much further behind, Gaddis still appears likely to head to the bullpen or get optioned to Triple-A after Sunday's start.

ROTOWIRE
Six scoreless innings in win
Gaddis (1-1) earned the win Monday, tossing six scoreless innings in which he allowed two hits and one walk during a 3-0 win over the White Sox. He struck out four.
Impact
After a month at Triple-A Columbus, Gaddis was called up to the big-league club ahead of Monday's contest and made his sixth start of the season. It was the second time he completed at least six scoreless frames, lowering his ERA from 6.86 to 5.26. Gaddis hasn't been a major strikeout pitcher yet, but he's been able to take care of business more often than not in 2023, as the majority of the damage done to his ERA came during a tumultuous outing versus the Yankees on April 11. Gaddis figures to get at least one more turn in the rotation after his stellar outing against Chicago, but he's not guaranteed a spot in the rotation when Triston McKenzie (shoulder) and (Aaron Civale) finish their rehab assignments.

Officially called up
Gaddis was called up from Triple-A Columbus and will start Monday against the White Sox, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.
Impact
As expected, Gaddis will join the Guardians ahead of their three-game series with the White Sox on Monday, drawing the start in the series opener. The 25-year-old has struggled to a 6.86 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 19.2 innings in the big leagues this season, but most of the damage came April 11 against the Yankees, when he surrendered eight runs over three frames. Gaddis will look to kick off his second stint in the big leagues a little better Monday when he takes on a disappointing Chicago team.
