2025 MLB Contender Rankings: The Toughest Final Month Before the Postseason?
Victor Caratini - Aiming to return Wednesday Astros manager Joe Espada said that Caratini (concussion) could be reinstated from the 7-day injured list as soon as Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Caratini seems to be making good progress in his recovery from a concussion, with Espada noting that the backstop did some running and threw to the bases Monday. The Astros don't seem to be planning on sending Caratini out on a rehab assignment, so he could be activated Wednesday if he remains clear of concussion symptoms coming out of Monday's workout.

Jacob Melton - Losing out on playing time Melton is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels.
Impact The left-handed Melton will hit the bench for the fourth time in five games while the Astros face off against southpaw Yusei Kikuchi in the series finale. Though three of Melton's absences during that stretch have come against left-handed pitching, his playing time versus righties could soon dwindle. Not only is Jake Meyers (calf) poised to return from the injured list perhaps as soon as this weekend, but Mauricio Dubon has also gotten more looks in center field of late while Melton has slashed just .149/.219/.179 in 73 plate appearances to begin his big-league career.

Jesús Sánchez - Taking seat Monday Sanchez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels.
Impact The left-handed-hitting Sanchez had started in each of the Astros' last three games, including once against a lefty (Tyler Anderson), but he'll bow out of the starting nine while southpaw Yusei Kikuchi takes the hill for the Angels. Cam Smith will cover right field in place of Sanchez.

Logan Davidson - Cast off 40-man Davidson was designated for assignment Monday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact This is the corresponding move for Luis Garcia (elbow) getting activated from the 60-day injured list. Davidson is hitting .207 with a 34.4 percent strikeout rate in 22 games for Triple-A Sugar Land.

Logan Davidson - Cast off 40-man roster The Astros designated Davidson for assignment Monday.
Impact Davidson will give up his spot on the 40-man roster to right-hander Luis Garcia (elbow), who was activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Monday versus the Angels. Since being claimed off waivers from the Athletics in July and getting sent to Triple-A Sugar Land, Davidson is hitting .207 with a 34.4 percent strikeout rate in 22 games.

Taylor Trammell - Activated from 10-day IL The Astros activated Trammell (neck) from the 10-day injured list Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact Trammell ran face-first into the outfield wall Aug. 20 against the Tigers and suffered a neck strain. He was also checked for a concussion. The 27-year-old outfielder is slashing .208/.313/.354 with three home runs, 11 RBI, 10 runs scored, two stolen bases and a 15:35 BB:K across 112 plate appearances this season.

Taylor Trammell - Returns from 10-day IL The Astros activated Trammell (neck) from the 10-day injured list Monday.
Impact Trammell had been out of action for the Astros since Aug. 20, when he sustained a neck strain after a face-first collision with the outfield wall. The 27-year-old was able to complete a three-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land over the weekend and now appears set to fill a depth role in the Houston outfield in September. Over 112 plate appearances in the majors this season, Trammell is slashing .208/.313/.354 with three home runs, two stolen bases, 11 RBI and 10 runs.

Luis Garcia - Activated ahead of Monday's start Garcia (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of his start Monday against the Angels, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Garcia, who underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2023 and required a longer than usual recovery, is coming off his best rehab start, in which he went six innings and allowed one earned run with five strikeouts against Albuquerque. He is set for a two-start week, with a matchup in Texas lined up up for this weekend.

Hunter Brown - No support in loss Brown (10-7) took the loss Sunday against the Angels, allowing one run on three hits and three walks across six innings. He struck out five.
Impact Brown notched a fourth straight quality start - a streak that includes a six-run (two earned) outing against the Rockies in Houston - but the Astros offense failed to scrape across a run, leaving him with the loss. Brown has been excellent lately, boasting a 1.71 ERA and a 38:13 K:BB in 42.2 innings across his last seven starts. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Rangers in his next start.

Jake Meyers - May be week away from return Astros general manager Dana Brown said Sunday that Meyers (calf) could return from the 10-day injured list "in another week or so," Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Meyers thus isn't in line to join the Astros when the active roster expands from 26 to 28 men Monday, but the 29-year-old could be ready for reinstatement by the second week of September if all goes smoothly during his rehab assignment. Through his first three games with Sugar Land, Meyers has gone 1-for-9 with two walks. Meyers has been on the shelf since July 11 with a right calf strain, but once he's activated, he should take over as the Astros' primary center fielder.
