Shawn Dubin - Starting bullpen game Friday Dubin will start Friday's game in Minnesota, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Impact It had been the expectation, but the Astros were holding off officially announcing it in case Dubin was needed in relief before then. The 28-year-old threw 55 pitches over 3.1 innings in a start against the Mets over the weekend, but that was his first start in either the majors or minors this season. It will be a bullpen game for Houston.

Jake Bloss - Cleared for rehab start Bloss (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Impact It will actually be his Triple-A debut, as Bloss skipped over that level when he was promoted to make his major-league debut last month. He went down with right shoulder inflammation in that outing but has made a rapid recovery. With Justin Verlander (neck) ruled out through the All-Star break, Bloss could re-enter the Houston rotation next week.

Justin Verlander - Ruled out through All-Star break Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that Verlander (neck) will not return prior to the All-Star break, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Impact Verlander has resumed playing catch and appears to be making some progress as he works his way back from neck soreness. However, it's been about three weeks since he's thrown off a mound and he'll surely need at least one rehab start before returning. The 41-year-old should be back before the end of July if he can avoid setbacks.

Kyle Tucker - Out through All-Star break Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that Tucker (lower leg) won't return from the injured list before the All-Star break, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Impact The 27-year-old saw his recovery progress from the lower leg bruise pick up this week, but he won't be back before the midseason festivities. Tucker has been on the injured list nearly a month and could require a rehab assignment before being cleared for major-league action.

Yordan Alvarez - Homers in third straight game Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, a walk, three runs and three RBI in a 9-2 victory versus the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Impact Alvarez was a constant thorn in Toronto's side in the contest. He plated Houston's first run with a third-inning double, added a tiebreaking solo shot in the sixth inning and produced another RBI with a double in the eighth. Alvarez has gone deep in each of his past three contests, batting .545 (6-for-11) with three long balls, eight RBI and six runs over that span.

Ronel Blanco - Settles for no-decision Wednesday Blanco allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Toronto on Wednesday.

Impact Blanco fared fine after giving up six runs (three earned) in his previous outing, though fantasy managers in leagues that count quality starts will no doubt be disappointed that he was pulled having tossed 5.2 frames. That hook may have also cost the right-hander a victory, as he had a one-run lead when he was relieved by Tayler Scott, who promptly gave up a single to allow the tying run to cross the plate. While Blanco has posted a modest 8.2 K/9 on the campaign, his overall numbers are strong -- he's recorded a 2.53 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across 96 frames.
