Sunday's start in question Whitlock is questionable to make his scheduled start Sunday against Seattle due to his hip injury, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Impact Manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Whitlock wasn't expected to miss any time due to his hip tightness, but the team is working on contingency plans in case the right-hander is unable to take the mound Sunday. Even if Whitlock doesn't start Sunday, it doesn't seem like the Red Sox are particularly concerned that his hip injury is a long-term issue.

Impact Cora noticed Whitlock favoring one leg during a start June 1, and the right-hander was roughed up by the Angels in his subsequent start. The manager indicated the condition is "nothing serious," while the pitcher said it's not bothering him when he pitches. "But obviously we have to take care of him," Cora said. "Maybe we can make adjustments as far as like his conditioning and all that. Instead of running outside, let's do it on the treadmill." Cora added that Whitlock will be ready for his next start, which is slated for Sunday in Seattle.

Impact Whitlock had some trouble with Mike Trout in particular, as the Angels' star outfielder hit a two-run home run and a double before exiting the game with groin tightness. Whitlock didn't do that well to settle in, and he was done after 71 pitches (47 strikes) in a shaky outing. The right-hander now has a 3.51 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 49:11 K:BB across 48.2 innings in 13 appearances (nine starts). He remains on a 2-1 record heading into his next start this weekend in Seattle.
