Stuck with loss
Clase (1-1) was charged with the loss Monday after allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk in one-third of an inning.
Impact
First baseman Yu Chang fielded what looked like a potential double-play ball and hit the runner at second base with the throw, allowing the winning run to score for the White Sox. Clase created the traffic on the basepaths with an infield hit allowed and a free pass, but the fireballing righty has separated himself with his performance early and this shouldn't affect his standing in the bullpen hierarchy.

Records second save of season
Clase notched his second save of the season Sunday against the Tigers. He allowed one hit and one walk while fanning one during his lone inning of work.
Impact
Clase recorded two saves during the weekend series against the Tigers and has yet to allow a run this season, though this was the first time he allowed baserunners in four outings. The right-hander didn't rattle despite having runners in first and second with one out, and he closed things out with a double play after inducing Nomar Mazara to ground out. Clase has gone 2-for-2 in save opportunities this season and has started the year on a dominant note.

Notches first save
Clase struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Friday to pick up his first save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Tigers.
Impact
The right-hander simply overpowered the heart of Detroit's order, tossing 11 of 14 pitches for strikes and fanning Jeimer Candelario and Nomar Mazara. Clase has a 0.00 ERA and 5:0 K:BB through his first three appearances (three innings) of 2021, and while Cleveland has deployed a committee in the ninth inning so far, Clase has done nothing to remove himself from the high-leverage mix.

Pitches scoreless inning Wednesday
Clase (1-0) earned the win while pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts Wednesday against the Royals.
Impact
Clase pitched the eighth inning and looked absolutely dominant, tossing 10 of his 15 pitches for strikes and fanning two of the three batters he faced -- none other than Salvador Perez and Jorge Soler. Clase has recorded two scoreless outings to begin the season.

Part of three-man closer committee
Cleveland will use a committee of Clase, James Karinchak and Nick Wittgren for save chances this season, manager Terry Francona told MLB.com.
Impact
Clase had a 4.32 ERA this spring with 11 strikeouts and no walks in 8.1 innings. Karinchak entered spring as the leading candidate for the closer role, but struggled with a 6.52 ERA and 10 walks in 9.2 innings. Wittgren looked sharp with a 1.08 ERA and nine strikeouts in 8.1 innings. It sounds like the closer situation could be in flux early in the season.

Showing off devastating cutter
Cleveland is looking at Clase as an impact reliever who could pitch in the late innings this season, Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com reports.
Impact
Pluto speculates that Clase, whose cutter has touched 99 mph this spring, could work in the seventh and eighth innings this season. Clase's goal is to be the team's closer, per Zack Meisel of The Athletic. Manager Terry Francona has already suggested that James Karinchak could be used to get outs at the highest-leverage moments of the game, even if that happens prior to the ninth inning, so it could be any of Clase, Nick Wittgren, Phil Maton or Blake Parker who ends up with the save in those instances.
