Unable to crack Opening Day roster
The Blue Jays reassigned Jimenez to minor-league camp Monday.
Impact
Though his longshot bid to win a spot on Toronto's Opening Day roster fell short, Jimenez was able to make a positive impression this spring with an .857 OPS over 45 plate appearances in the Grapefruit League. The 29-year-old offers limited utility on defense, so any opportunity he might have to re-emerge in the big leagues will hinge on him tearing up International League pitching at Triple-A Buffalo over an extended period. Jimenez last appeared in the majors in 2024, when he slashed .238/.289/.336 with six home runs over 349 plate appearances between stops with the White Sox and Orioles.

Inks minor-league deal with Toronto
Jimenez and the Blue Jays agreed on a minor-league contract Sunday, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Jimenez will stick around with the Blue Jays' organization after ending the 2025 campaign with Triple-A Durham. The 29-year-old batted .278 with three home runs, 29 RBI, 14 runs scored and a stolen base over 151 at-bats in 40 contests with Durham last year. Jimenez has reportedly lost 20 pounds since the end of the 2025 campaign, and he has been playing in the Dominican winter league. Additionally, the contract he signed Sunday includes a spring training invite.

Nets MiLB pact from Toronto
The Blue Jays signed Jimenez to a minor-league contract Friday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact
Jimenez slashed .278/.335/.397 with three home runs in 167 plate appearances with Triple-A Durham before being released in July. He will give the Blue Jays some experienced outfield/designated hitter depth at Triple-A Buffalo.

Cut loose by Rays
The Rays released Jimenez on Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact
Jimenez has been in the Rays' minor-league system for the entirety of the 2025 campaign, and he's slashed .278/.335/.397 in 167 plate appearances with Triple-A Durham. However, the veteran outfielder has been released and will hit the open market, where he should command some interest from teams willing to take a flier.

Returns from IL
Triple-A Durham reinstated Jimenez (Achilles) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday.
Impact
Jimenez didn't play Tuesday in Durham's 15-6 win over Memphis, but he's healthy again after missing the past five weeks with right Achilles tendinitis. Prior to being activated, Jimenez played in eight rehab games in the rookie-level Florida Complex League and went 2-for-21 with six walks.

Goes on Triple-A IL
Jimenez was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Durham on Monday due to right Achilles tendinitis, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact
Jimenez has slashed .270/.331/.369 with two home runs and a 28:13 K:BB over 37 games this season with Durham, splitting time between right field and designated hitter while mixing in some starts at first base and left field. It's not clear how long the 28-year-old might be sidelined.

Sent to minor-league camp
The Rays reassigned Jimenez to Triple-A Durham on Sunday.
Impact
The transaction was fully expected after manager Kevin Cash said Friday that the 28-year-old outfielder/designated hitter wouldn't be included on the Opening Day roster. Jimenez is slated to open the season at Triple-A Durham, but he'll have the ability to opt out of his contract on May 1 and June 1 if a promotion to the big leagues isn't imminent or if he wants to explore his options on the open market.

Falls short of roster spot
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Friday that Jimenez will not make the Opening Day roster, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Impact
Cash noted that while Jimenez's bat "started to come to life" recently during Grapefruit League play, it's not going to be enough to crack the Opening Day roster. Jimenez -- who is on a minor-league contract -- will begin the season at Triple-A Durham and "could be huge for us at any point during the season," per Cash.

Sheds 25-to-30 pounds
Jimenez lost 25-to-30 pounds over the offseason, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Jimenez had to settle for a minor-league contract with the Rays this offseason following a 2024 campaign that he referred to Sunday as a "disaster." Manager Kevin Cash said that Jimenez is "really, really motivated" and will get some reps in the outfield and even at first base in addition to competing for at-bats at designated hitter.

Contending for bench role
Jimenez will enter spring training in a competition for the final bench spot on the Rays' roster with Curtis Mead, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact
Jimenez joined the Rays on a minor-league deal in late December and will earn $2 million if he makes the Opening Day roster. He struggled to get going during the 2024 season, but he had at least a .169 ISO in all of his prior campaigns. While Mead would offer Tampa Bay more defensive versatility, Jimenez has the chance to be the more impactful bat.

Signs minors deal with Tampa Bay
The Rays signed Jimenez to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Jimenez, 28, slashed only .238/.289/.336with six home runs over 98 games between the White Sox and Orioles in 2024. He's reached 100 games played just twice in his career and hasn't hit 20 home runs since his rookie season back in 2019. Jimenez did still have a 49 percent hard-hit rate this past season and represents a no-risk, moderate-upside play for the Rays on a minor-league deal.

O's decline option
The Orioles declined Jimenez's $16.5 million club option for 2025 on Saturday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Impact
2024 marked Jimenez's worst season at the plate in his six-year career, as he slashed just .238/.289/.336 over 324 plate appearances between the White Sox and Orioles. Because of his poor performance, it makes sense that Baltimore would rather pay the 27-year-old's $3 million buyout than give him $16.5 million to join the team's already-crowded lineup.

Accepts move to Triple-A
Jimenez accepted Baltimore's decision to option him to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Jimenez had to approve the move to the minors due to his MLB service time, and he apparently would like to remain in the Orioles organization. The 27-year-old played in 33 games since being acquired from the White Sox and posted a .232/.270/.316 slash line with one homer in 100 plate appearances.

Not playing regularly vs. RHPs
Jimenez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.
Impact
Ryan Mountcastle's (wrist) move to the injured list in late August looked as though it might open up everyday playing time at designated hitter for Jimenez, but the Orioles have instead chosen to rotate a number of players at the DH spot. Jimenez still appears to be the Orioles' preferred DH versus left-handed pitching, but he finds himself on the bench for the fourth time in Baltimore's last five matchups with righties.

Heading to bench Monday
Jimenez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.
Impact
Following Ryan Mountcastle's (wrist) move to the injured list a week ago, Jimenez has moved into a near-everyday role for the Orioles, starting in seven of the last eight games. According to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, Anthony Santander may not be moving around at full speed after tripping while rounding first base in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Rockies, so he'll get a day out of the outfield and will serve as the designated hitter Monday, which leaves no room in the lineup for Jimenez. Assuming Santander is cleared to play the outfield later on in the series, Jimenez should reclaim a spot in the starting nine in short order.

Hits first homer with new team
Jimenez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Rockies.
Impact
The homer was Jimenez's first in 23 games with the Orioles. He's slashed .296/.315/.408 with seven RBI since he was traded from the White Sox, which has breathed new life into his campaign. Overall, Jimenez has a .253/.301/.360 slash line, six homers, 23 RBI, 24 runs scored, 14 doubles and three stolen bases over 88 contests this season. Jimenez has seen more steady work as the designated hitter since Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) went on the injured list, which opened up first base for Ryan O'Hearn and Emmanuel Rivera.

Jimenez is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Red Sox.
