INJURIES

Entering free agency Jimenez elected to enter free agency Saturday after clearing waivers.
Impact Jimenez was DFA'd by the Blue Jays on Wednesday, as the team needed to make room on the roster for George Springer (toe), the latter of whom returned from the 10-day injured list. Jimenez will now have the opportunity to select his next landing spot, and he should garner interest from teams looking to add another right-handed bat to the roster. Jimenez has gone 9-for-31 (.290) with three walks, three RBI and two runs scored this season.

DFA'd by Blue Jays The Blue Jays designated Jimenez for assignment Wednesday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Impact The club needed to clear a spot on the active roster for the return of George Springer (toe). Jimenez got a bit of run at designated hitter while Springer was out, going 9-for-31 (all nine hits were singles) in 12 games. He'll now go through the waivers process.

Hitting bench Wednesday Jimenez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
Impact Following a stretch of four consecutive starts at designated hitter, Jimenez will take a seat for the series finale while Vladimir Guerrero covers the DH spot and Lenyn Sosa enters the lineup at first base. Since being called up from Triple-A Buffalo on April 12, Jimenez has gone 8-for-21 (.381 average) with three walks against four strikeouts, but his opportunities remain likely to dry up once the Blue Jays get either of George Springer (toe) or Addison Barger (ankle) back from the injured list.

Drives in two runs Tuesday Jimenez went 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI during the Blue Jays' 4-2 win over the Angels on Tuesday.
Impact Jimenez got the Blue Jays on the board with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning before extending the team's lead to 4-1 with an RBI single in the eighth. He has filled in admirably as the Blue Jays' designated hitter following the placement of both Addison Barger (ankles) and George Springer (toe) on the 10-day injured list. Since being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on April 12, Jimenez has gone 8-for-21 (.381) with two RBI.

Two hits against southpaw Monday Jimenez went 2-for-3 in Monday's win over the Angels.
Impact Getting the start at DH and batting cleanup against lefty Reid Detmers, Jimenez banged out singles in the first and sixth innings. The 29-year-old is batting .368 (7-for-19) since being added to the Blue Jays' big-league roster, but all seven knocks have been singles and he has only one RBI. With George Springer (toe) and Addison Barger (ankles) both inching closer to returns, Jimenez's time with Toronto might be running out.

Corbin Carroll hits grand slam in 8th in the Diamondbacks' 6-2 victory over the Blue Jays

On bench for second straight Jimenez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers.
Impact After being called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday for his first big-league action since 2024, Jimenez served as Toronto's designated hitter in the team's ensuing two games and went 2-for-7 with a walk. Following the Blue Jays' acquisition of Lenyn Sosa from the White Sox earlier in the week, however, Jimenez will now hit the bench for the second straight game. Even with George Springer's (toe) recent move to the injured list leaving a regular lineup spot open, the Blue Jays may be content to rotate a number of players at DH rather than leaning exclusively on Jimenez.

Two hits in Toronto debut Jimenez went 2-for-4 with two strikeouts in Sunday's loss to the Twins.
Impact Getting the start at DH in place of George Springer (toe) and batting seventh, Jimenez laced singles to left field in the fourth and eighth innings. The 29-year-old hasn't provided meaningful production in a big-league lineup since 2023, and it's not yet clear if the Jays view Jimenez as an option to handle a significant role in Springer's absence, or if he'll be a convenient player to waive once Addison Barger (ankles) gets healthy.

Blue Jays put Springer on 10-day IL because of fractured toe, select Jiménez from Triple-A

The Toronto Blue Jays put designated hitter George Springer on the 10-day injured list because of a fractured left big toe and selected Eloy Jiménez from Triple-A Buffalo

Impact Back in the majors for the first time since 2024, Jimenez will immediately slot in as the Blue Jays' DH in place of George Springer, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left big toe fracture. Jimenez won't necessarily settle into a full-time role with Toronto, however, as manager John Schneider could rotate a number of players in at the DH spot during Springer's absence. After slugging 31 home runs in his first big-league season in 2019, the 29-year-old Jimenez struggled with injuries and saw a steep decline in his power production over the last several years. He's been able to stay healthy so far in 2026 but produced a modest .257/.372/.371 slash line over 43 plate appearances with Buffalo prior to his call-up.

Unable to crack Opening Day roster The Blue Jays reassigned Jimenez to minor-league camp Monday.
Impact Though his longshot bid to win a spot on Toronto's Opening Day roster fell short, Jimenez was able to make a positive impression this spring with an .857 OPS over 45 plate appearances in the Grapefruit League. The 29-year-old offers limited utility on defense, so any opportunity he might have to re-emerge in the big leagues will hinge on him tearing up International League pitching at Triple-A Buffalo over an extended period. Jimenez last appeared in the majors in 2024, when he slashed .238/.289/.336 with six home runs over 349 plate appearances between stops with the White Sox and Orioles.

Inks minor-league deal with Toronto Jimenez and the Blue Jays agreed on a minor-league contract Sunday, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Jimenez will stick around with the Blue Jays' organization after ending the 2025 campaign with Triple-A Durham. The 29-year-old batted .278 with three home runs, 29 RBI, 14 runs scored and a stolen base over 151 at-bats in 40 contests with Durham last year. Jimenez has reportedly lost 20 pounds since the end of the 2025 campaign, and he has been playing in the Dominican winter league. Additionally, the contract he signed Sunday includes a spring training invite.
