Impact Morgan retired the side in order in the first inning but ran into trouble thereafter. Though he kept the ball in the yard, Morgan clearly wasn't sharp as he hit two batters in addition to the three free passes he issued. Morgan was coming off consecutive quality starts prior to Thursday's appearance, during which he allowed a combined four earned runs across 13 innings with a 12:2 K:BB. After this poor outing, he has a 6.52 ERA across 48.1 innings on the campaign.

Impact Morgan got a raw deal in this one. The rookie pitched well enough to win, but didn't get the run support to make that vision become a reality. The only damage against his line came on a Zack Short sacrifice fly in the second and an Akil Baddoo RBI base hit in the fifth. While the right-hander still has allowed multiple earned runs in all nine career starts, Saturday marked the first outing in which he didn't yield a home run. Seven innings is also the deepest Morgan has gone into a game in his career, and he needed just 88 pitches to do it. While the strikeouts weren't there, the 25-year-old has now strung together two quality starts since being recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Aug. 2.

Impact After getting a call-up from Triple-A Columbus to take the hill Monday when Cleveland required a fifth starter, Morgan came through with the best outing of his young career. Though he took a no-decision against the Blue Jays, he worked six innings and struck out nine, both of which were career-high totals. Barring an implosion against Detroit, Morgan should hold down a back-end spot in the Cleveland rotation at least until one of Aaron Civale (finger) or Shane Bieber (shoulder) returns from the injured list.

Impact The right-hander delivered five shutout innings before allowing a two-run blast to Vladimir Guerrero in the sixth. Long balls continue to be a problem for Morgan, but Monday's start was both his longest and best of the year. The 25-year-old lowered his ERA to 6.75 with a 1.31 WHIP and 42:6 K:BB across 37.1 innings this season. If he remains in the rotation going forward, he lines up to face Detroit this weekend.

Impact Though Cleveland recalled another starting candidate in Sam Hentges from Triple-A Columbus when Morgan was optioned to the minors July 22, the former wasn't needed at any point over the last week and a half while the team got by with a four-man rotation. Hentges remains on the roster, but Cleveland will bring back Morgan to fill the opening in the rotation with the club requiring a fifth starter. Morgan has been roughed up to the tune of a 7.47 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 31.1 innings with the big club, but a strong 20.4 K-BB% rate offers some hope of a turnaround for the right-hander once his sky-high 22.4 HR/FB% normalizes a bit.

Impact Morgan was looking to bounce back from taking a loss in his start last weekend, but the right-hander will have to wait until after the All-Star break to get back on the mound. Sunday's game has been rescheduled to take place in a doubleheader September 20.
