Impact Encarnacion was part of a mid-game offensive explosion that included five home runs. The White Sox have a dangerous number of bats in the middle of the order with Encarnacion nestled into the cleanup spot behind Jose Abreu and ahead of Eloy Jimenez. Add in Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, Luis Robert and Yasmani Grandal and this could be one of the league's most productive offenses. It's an offense that produced 10 extra-base hits, six home runs and 15 runs in 18 innings.

Shakes off three HRs Rodon (elbow) allowed three home runs and struck out four over 3.2 innings during Thursday's intrasquad game, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Impact This was Rodon's second outing since having Tommy John surgery 14 months ago. Despite the home runs -- two by Edwin Encarnacion and one by Tim Anderson -- the left-hander was pleased with his slider. "Slider was sharp, fastball was decent, close to almost all the way," Rodon said. "A couple of missed pitches, things we can get better at, and good thing these don't count." It's unclear where Rodon stands when the season opens. He's almost certain to be part of the rotation at some point during the season, but that may not happen immediately.

No limitations Encarnacion confirmed that the lower back and hip injuries that cost him time in spring training no longer bother him, David Venn of MLB.com reports.

Impact Encarnacion, who took his first live batting practice of summer camp earlier this week, said he feels no limitations as he prepares for the 2020 season. "The pause was good for me, because I got ready and recovered from the injury in my lower back," Encarnacion said on a Zoom call this week. "I feel 100 percent [ready] to compete, and I thank God for that." The 37-year-old, who homered during Thursday's intrasquad game, has been one of the most consistent power hitters over the last decade and has eight straight seasons of 30 or more home runs.

Ready for second spring training Encarnacion (hip) said he's ready to begin training whenever MLB starts a second spring training, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Impact Encarnacion, who dealt with a sore right hip during spring training, had plenty of time to get healthy during the pause prompted by the coronavirus pandemic. He's used a batting cage at his farm and owns a hitting facility in Santo Domingo (Dominican Repbulic). Once MLB gives the green light, Encarnacion said he's ready to hit the facility to begin a ramp-up to an abbreviated season. Encarnacion estimated that he'd need about three weeks' worth of at-bats in a second spring training. The 37-year-old is expected to serve as the White Sox's primary designated hitter.
