Targeting four-inning rehab start Cabrera (shoulder) will make his second rehab start Friday with Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Cabrera is aiming to work four innings Friday, after he tossed three scoreless innings and 43 pitches in his first outing with Jacksonville last Sunday. The right-hander will presumably need one more rehab appearance after Friday's outing to get stretched out enough to the point that the Marlins are comfortable bringing him back from the 15-day injured list and inserting him into the big-league rotation. Cabrera's imminent return is welcome news for a Miami rotation that will be without Eury Perez (elbow) for the rest of the season when he undergoes Tommy John surgery Monday.

Throws bullpen session Cabrera (shoulder) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact He threw all fastballs in what was his first time throwing off the mound since he was diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement just over a week ago. Cabrera figures to need another bullpen session or two before progressing to facing hitters and eventually games. There is no timetable for him rejoining the Marlins' rotation, but he's made relatively quick progress given the nature of the injury.

Blanks Yanks in Monday's outing Cabrera gave up four hits over three scoreless innings in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees. He struck out three without walking a batter.
Impact Entering the game in the fourth inning, Cabrera didn't face any of New York's top stars but did fan Oswaldo Cabrera and Everson Pereira before exiting after 30 pitches (22 strikes). The 25-year-old righty seems all but set in the rotation with Braxton Garrett (shoulder) unlikely to be ready by Opening Day, and his excellent control to begin the spring has been an extremely encouraging sign after he posted a ghastly 15.2 percent walk rate over 99.2 innings in 2023.

Flounders against Pirates Cabrera did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over 3.2 innings against the Pirates. He struck out three.
Impact With the Marlins in the thick of the NL wild card race, manager Skip Schumaker didn't give Cabrera a long leash. The 25-year-old struggled with his control again Friday night -- a common theme for his 2023 campaign as he entered the start with an ugly 5.9 K/9. Cabrera ends the season with a 4.42 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 118:66 K:BB over 99.2 innings.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Drawing Friday's start Cabrera will start for the Marlins on Friday in Pittsburgh, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Cabrera was seemingly either going to start Friday or Saturday and the Marlins have decided to hand him the ball in the series opener. Given the state of Miami's pitching staff, they could really use some length out of Cabrera on Friday. Unfortunately, he hasn't gone six innings in a start in the majors since early June.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Solid in seventh win Cabrera (7-7) earned the win Sunday against Milwaukee, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five.
Impact After struggling in a recent outing against the Brewers on Sept. 12 in which he allowed six walks, Cabrera displayed much better control and was able to secure the win Sunday. Since being recalled Sept. 6, the 25-year-old pitcher has a 1.89 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB in 19 innings over four starts. He has allowed two or fewer walks in three of those four outings. Cabrera's last start of the season is currently scheduled to be on the road against Pittsburgh.
SEPTEMBER 24, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Yields one run Cabrera allowed one run on four hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in Monday's loss to the Mets. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Cabrera made his first MLB start since July 31 and looked efficient with 51 strikes on 77 pitches. In three appearances since rejoining the Marlins, he's registered a 1.93 ERA and a 17:9 K:BB through 14 frames. He now owns a 4.35 ERA across 91 innings at the MLB level. Cabrera is currently projected for a home matchup with the Brewers this weekend.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Set to start Monday Cabrera is expected to start Monday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact The right-hander worked as the bulk pitcher in his first two appearances back with the Marlins, but he's set to start Monday's contest. Cabrera has still had control issues with eight walks in those two outings, but he's allowed just two runs on two hits with 13 strikeouts over 8.2 innings.
SEPTEMBER 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Walks six in bulk relief Cabrera (6-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Brewers. He allowed two runs on one hit and six walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings.
Impact Cabrera followed up JT Chargois -- who tossed one scoreless frame as an opener -- and dished out six walks for the second time in his last three appearances. Despite his lack of control, Cabrera held the Brewers to just two runs on one hit. Since being called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sept. 6, Cabrera has worked exclusively as a bulk reliever, owning a 2.08 ERA and a 13:8 K:BB through 8.2 frames.
SEPTEMBER 13, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Likely to work in bulk relief again Cabrera is expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher JT Chargois in Tuesday's game in Milwaukee, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Though he hasn't started since being called up from Triple-A Jacksonville last Wednesday, Cabrera looks to be the fifth member of the Miami rotation after Sandy Alcantara (forearm) was recently placed on the injured list. In his return to the big leagues last week, Cabrera was used behind Chargois in an 11-4 win over the Dodgers, tossing four scoreless frames and striking out eight while picking up the win. Given the strong results Cabrera provided in the bulk-relief role in his last appearance, the Marlins will likely deploy him in that capacity again with the hope he can deliver a repeat performance.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
After humbling month in minor leagues, Edward Cabrera is back — and the Marlins need him Cabrera threw four shutout innings out of the bullpen in Miami’s win against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.
SEPTEMBER 7, 2023 • MIAMIHERALD.COM
Sharp as bulk reliever Cabrera (6-6) picked up the win in Wednesday's 11-4 victory over the Dodgers, allowing one hit and two walks over four scoreless relief innings. He struck out eight.
Impact While initial reports suggested the right-hander would be joining the rotation, particularly after Sandy Alcantara (forearm) landed on the IL, Cabrera was instead deployed as a bulk reliever and didn't take the mound until after three other Marlins pitchers had worked a combined four frames. The gambit by manager Skip Schumaker paid off, as Cabrera generated 25 called or swinging strikes on only 72 pitches as he dominated the Dodgers and collected his first first big-league win since early June. It's not clear what his usage will be moving forward, but if he stays on turn, the 25-year-old's next outing would come early next week in Milwaukee.
SEPTEMBER 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled to rotation Miami recalled Cabrera from Triple-A Jacksonville ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Dodgers.
Impact The initial plan had been for Cabrera to return as a sixth starter for the Marlins, but he's now entering a five-man mix with Sandy Alcantara getting sent to the 15-day injured list Wednesday because of a flexor strain. Cabrera, 25, was sporting a 2.22 ERA and 30:12 K:BB in 28.1 innings (five starts) since his Aug. 1 demotion to Jacksonville. He's worked to a 4.79 ERA and 93:52 K:BB in 77 innings (17 starts) this season at the MLB level.
SEPTEMBER 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Expected to start Wednesday Cabrera joined the Marlins on Tuesday and is expected to start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Cabrera hasn't officially been recalled to the major-league roster, but the Marlins can make that move ahead of Wednesday's game without having to lose anybody. They're going to roll with a six-man rotation down the stretch while trying to claim one of the three NL Wild Card spots. Cabrera, 25, pitched to a 2.22 ERA and 30:12 K:BB in 28.1 innings (five starts) with Triple-A Jacksonville following his Aug. 1 demotion.
SEPTEMBER 5, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Candidate for call-up Wednesday Cabrera could be called up from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers in Miami, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact The Marlins appear set to break in a new member of the rotation this week, as Miami has already confirmed Jesus Luzardo (Tuesday) and Braxton Garrett (Thursday) as starting pitchers for two of its games against Los Angeles while having yet to name a starter for the middle game of the series. Assuming the Marlins don't opt to treat Wednesday's game as a bullpen day, Cabrera would be the top candidate to fill the opening. Since being optioned to the minors Aug. 1, Cabrera has shown improved command over his five starts with Jacksonville, accruing a 2.22 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 30:12 K:BB while allowing just two home runs in 28.1 innings.

Making progress with command Cabrera has looked good in two starts for Triple-A Jacksonville since his demotion, allowing just two earned runs over 12 innings with a 13:3 K:BB, Jordan McPherson of The Miami He...
Impact Both runs came on solo homers, but the Marlins are more concerned with Cabrera simply getting the ball into the strike zone consistently, trusting that the movement on his plus stuff will take care of the rest. "You watch him, [but] you don't watch the results," manager Skip Schumaker said Saturday before the right-hander's most recent outing, in which he struck out 10 over six scoreless innings against Norfolk. "When you're watching him, he's commanding all of his pitches again, which is what we're looking for. Hopefully he continues to do that. If he continues to do that and knock the door down, he'll come back up." Cabrera is eligible to return to the big-league roster as soon as Wednesday, and with Eury Perez struggling to last five innings since rejoining the Miami rotation, the two young hurlers could switch places for this weekend's road series against the Dodgers.
AUGUST 14, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Optioned to Triple-A Cabrera was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Cabrera struggled mightily with his command in his last start Monday versus the Phillies, yielding six walks over just three innings. The right-hander heads back to the farm holding an overall 4.79 ERA and 1.47 WHIP through 17 major-league starts this year.

AUGUST 1, 2023 • MLB.COM
Walks six in three innings Cabrera did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing two runs on two hits and six walks over three innings against Philadelphia. He struck out three.
Impact It was another abbreviated outing for Cabrera after he pitched just two innings before departing against Tampa Bay with a blister in his prior start. Cabrera's line ultimately could've been much worse, as he was only charged with two runs despite issuing six walks. Command has been a problem for the 25-year-old Cabrera so far this season -- his walk rate is up to 14.3%. Overall, Cabrera is 5-6 with a 4.79 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 93:52 K:BB across 17 starts (77 innings) this year.
AUGUST 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Cleared to start Monday Cabrera is listed as the Marlins' probable starter for Monday's game against the Phillies.
Impact In his last outing July 25, Cabrera, who was taking the hill for the second time since returning from the 15-day injured list following a one-month absence due to a shoulder issue, was lifted after just two innings and 53 pitches in his start against the Rays due to a blister on his throwing hand, according to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald. Though blisters have been a recurring problem for Cabrera this season, he presumably came out of his between-starts bullpen session without issue and will return to the bump Monday on five days' rest.
