Earns second win
Pomeranz (2-0) tossed a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts to earn the win in Sunday's 11-8 victory over the Reds.
Impact
Pomeranz made quick work of the Reds in the bottom of the seventh inning, then earned his second win of the season when the Cubs scored four times in the top of the eighth. The veteran righty has been good for Chicago, as he's yet to allow an earned run across 12.1 innings this year, and he's racked up 14 strikeouts as well. Pomeranz also has a save to his name, and he's quickly earning trust as a member of the Cubs' bullpen.

Secures first save Monday
Pomeranz collected the save in Monday's 5-2 victory over the Marlins, allowing one hit and no walks over a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
Impact
The veteran southpaw collected his first save since Aug. 11, 2020 against the Dodgers when he was on the Padres. Pomeranz could enter the saves discussion in Chicago since Porter Hodge unraveled in a high leverage during Sunday's loss to the Mets and Ryan Pressly has struggled to a 7.07 ERA across 14 innings. Pomeranz has been steady since debuting with the Cubs on April 25, firing 7.2 scoreless innings with a 0.52 WHIP and 8:2 K:BB.

Added to roster
The Cubs selected Pomeranz's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
Impact
The Cubs acquired Pomeranz via trade from the Mariners on Monday with the intention of adding him to the big league roster and that is now official. He's posted a 4.66 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB across 9.2 innings at the Triple-A level this season. If Pomeranz makes an appearance, it will be his first at the major-league level since 2021.

Acquired by Cubs
The Mariners traded Pomeranz to the Cubs on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Pomeranz signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners in March and appeared in nine games for Triple-A Tacoma, logging a 4.66 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB across 9.2 innings. The veteran southpaw hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021 with the Padres but could see work out of the Cubs' bullpen rather than stay in the minors, per Rosenthal.

Back in Seattle
Pomeranz signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Thursday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Impact
Pomeranz spent the spring with Seattle, allowing four runs in 7.2 innings, but he was released by the club Sunday. After testing the open market for a few days, the 36-year-old lefty will now return to the Mariners, though he's likely to only serve as depth for Triple-A Tacoma, given the fact he hasn't appeared in the majors since 2021.

Latches on with Dodgers
The Dodgers signed Pomeranz to a minor-league contract Friday.
Impact
Pomeranz was in camp with the Angels this spring before being released prior to Opening Day. The veteran left-hander last pitched in the majors in 2021, having dealt with elbow problems the last couple years. Pomeranz has been excellent in relief when healthy, so he makes plenty of sense on a no-risk, minor-league pact.

Shut down with elbow pain
Pomeranz has been shut down for the year due to renewed elbow discomfort, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact
Pomeranz restarted a minor-league rehab assignment in late August, but he allowed six earned runs over 3.1 innings (four appearances) before his troublesome left elbow began barking again. The 34-year-old impending free agent hasn't pitched in a major-league game since 2021.

Rocked again in rehab outing
Pomeranz (elbow) pitched two-thirds of an inning for Triple-A El Paso in a rehab appearance Friday, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk without notching any strikeouts.
Impact
Pomeranz hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021, so some rustiness isn't unexpected. Still, the Padres may not want to activate him until he begins throwing more effectively -- in hist last two outings with El Paso, he's allowed six runs on five hits and three walks with just one punchout over 1.1 frames. It's not yet clear when San Diego plans to have Pomeranz rejoin the big-league club, though the veteran reliever has previously indicated a determination to pitch for the Padres before the end of the season.

Moves rehab to Triple-A
Pomeranz (elbow) shifted his rehab assignment to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday and gave up two runs on one hit and two walks while recording two outs.
Impact
Pomeranz needed 25 pitches just to retire two of the five batters he faced in his first rehab outing at Triple-A and the second of his assignment overall after he previously tossed a scoreless inning for Single-A Lake Elsinore last Friday. The veteran southpaw has remained on the Padres' 60-day injured list all season and will likely require at least a handful of outings at El Paso before being deemed ready to rejoin the big-league bullpen.

Restarts rehab assignment
Pomeranz (elbow) pitched one inning for Single-A Lake Elsinore on Friday, striking out all three batters he faced in a scoreless inning.
Impact
Pomeranz had previously engaged in a minor-league rehab stint in late April but ended up getting shut down from throwing after three outings due to continued elbow discomfort. The lefty reliever hasn't pitched in the majors since undergoing flexor tendon surgery in August of 2021 and also dealt with a neck strain this spring. If he doesn't encounter any setbacks in his current rehab assignment, Pomeranz could be back in the Padres' bullpen in early September.

ROTOWIRE
Engaged in throwing program
Pomeranz (elbow) has been throwing for weeks and stills intends to return to the Padres' bullpen this season, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact
Pomeranz hasn't pitched in a big-league game since 2021 and has encountered multiple setbacks this season while attempting to return. The lefty reliever underwent an arthroscopic procedure in late May to clean up "junk" in his throwing elbow but has since resumed a throwing program. However, Pomeranz hasn't yet tossed any bullpens and will need to restart a minor-league rehab assignment before potentially being activated from the 60-day IL, so he remains at least several weeks away from pitching for the Padres. The veteran did say that he foresees returning this season, stating, "I'm determined to get back to where I was. There's still time left."
