Lands on IL
The Padres placed Pomeranz on the 10-day injured list Friday with left forearm inflammation.
Impact
The lefty has appeared in four games since returning from a lat injury June 29, allowing three hits and walking two in 3.1 scoreless innings. Per Dennis Lin of The Athletic, manager Jayce Tingler said Friday that Pomeranz could be activated when he's first eligible to come off the IL on July 17, so the injury doesn't appear to be serious as of now.

Notches hold in return
Pomeranz picked up a hold in Tuesday's win over the Reds, allowing one walk and striking out one batter over a scoreless inning.
Impact
The left-hander didn't have his best control in the contest -- he threw only eight of 19 pitches for strikes and uncorked a wild pitch-- but he still managed to complete a scoreless frame and pick up his sixth hold of the campaign. Pomeranz's rustiness is understandable given that he hadn't pitched for the Padres since May 9. Despite the long layoff, he remains in line for high-leverage work as one of San Diego's top setup men.

Reinstated Tuesday
Pomeranz (lat) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's game against the Reds.
Impact
The southpaw threw a live batting practice session Saturday. Despite Pomeranz being out since May 9 with lat tightness, the Friars will opt to skip sending the reliever on a rehab assignment. Pomeranz struck out 20 while posting a 1.98 ERA across 13.2 innings before the injury, and he shouldn't take long to resume working in high-leverage situations going forward.

Slated to toss live BP
Pomeranz (shoulder/lat) is expected to throw a live batting-practice session Saturday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact
Pomeranz tossed to live hitters Wednesday for the first time since suffering a setback during a similar session May 25, and he appears to have come out without any issues given Saturday's scheduled live bullpen. The veteran reliever will likely go on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso once he's ready to return to game action, per Sanders. Pomeranz remains on track to rejoin the Padres in early July.

Tosses bullpen session
Pomeranz (lat) threw a bullpen session Thursday, MLB.com reports.
Impact
The left-hander's bullpen session represents a major step toward a return as it marks his first such session since he experienced a setback in his recovery in late May. Manager Jayce Tingler indicated that Pomeranz will throw at least one more bullpen session before facing live hitters, and it is uncertain whether he will need a rehab stint before returning to the big club. He remains unlikely to rejoin the big club until early July.

Remains weeks away from return
Pomeranz (lat) is still a few weeks away from making a rehab assignment, the Associated Press reports.
Impact
When the lefty reliever went down with lat tightness in mid-May, there was optimism that his stay on the injured list could be short, and he was back to throwing soon after suffering the injury. However, Pomeranz subsequently experienced a setback while throwing to hitters, and he has yet to return to a mound. Given manager Jayce Tingler's indication Monday that Pomeranz won't make a rehab appearance for at least a couple weeks, the reliever's earliest possible return to the majors appears to be sometime in early July.
