May rejoin rotation Tuesday
GM Ben Cherington said Peters (back) could return from the injured list to start Tuesday versus the Tigers, Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact
Peters landed on the shelf Aug. 28 with a strained lower back, and Tuesday would be the first day he's eligible to be activated. If he's able to start, the left-hander shouldn't face significant workload limitations given the brevity of his absence.

Lands on 10-day IL
Peters was placed on the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain Saturday.
Impact
Peters started against the Cardinals on Friday and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out four in five innings to take the loss. However, he apparently sustained a back injury and will miss at least one turn through the rotation as a result. It's not yet clear when the southpaw will be able to return.

Allows three runs in start
Peters (0-2) picked up the loss pitching five innings while allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts in a loss to St. Louis on Friday.
Impact
The left-hander posted a solid first four innings before running into trouble in the fifth surrendering a two-run home run to Tommy Edman. Only the third start of the season for Peters, the southpaw now carries a 3.07 ERA into his next start likely against the Cubs.

Stymies Cards for five innings
Peters didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Cardinals after limiting St. Louis to one run over five innings. He scattered three hits and one walk and stru...
Impact
Making his second start with the Pirates, Peters wasn't overpowering -- he generated only four swings and misses among his 54 strikes -- but he managed the zone well and was mostly able to mitigate the damage of balls in play. With Pirates manager Derek Shelton recently moving Chad Kuhl to the bullpen, Peters looks like he'll have a decent amount of leash as a member of the Pittsburgh rotation. He lines up to make his next start next weekend in a rematch with the Cardinals in Pittsburgh.

Will keep rotation spot
Manager Derek Shelton said Sunday after the Pirates' 2-1 loss to the Brewers that Peters will remain in the Pittsburgh rotation for at least one more turn, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsbu...
Impact
Peters was summoned from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday and stepped in as a replacement for starter Bryse Wilson, who was moved to the 10-day injured list with general fatigue. The 28-year-old lefty took the loss in his Pirates debut, but he did well to limit the Brewers to two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. Peters tentatively lines up to make his next start Saturday in St. Louis.

Takes loss in Pittsburgh debut
Peters (0-1) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings, taking the loss Sunday versus Milwaukee.
Impact
The southpaw made his first major-league appearance of 2021, but he wasn't very effective. Peters was let down by his defense in the first inning, and he gave up an RBI double to Christian Yelich in the third. The 28-year-old could remain in the rotation while Bryse Wilson (general soreness) is on the shelf, but Peters isn't likely to have much fantasy relevance on a subpar Pittsburgh team. His next turn through the rotation is tentatively scheduled for next weekend in St. Louis.

Activated for start
The Pirates called up Peters from Triple-A Indianapolis prior to his scheduled start Sunday against the Brewers, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Pittsburgh moved Bryse Wilson (general soreness) to the 10-day IL in a corresponding move, and Peters will presumably step in as a replacement in the. rotation while the former is sidelined. Over 132.2 career innings in the majors, Peters owns a 5.83 ERA and 6.9 K/9.

Starting Sunday vs. Brewers
Peters will start Sunday's game against the Brewers, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact
He threw five innings on Aug. 7 at Triple-A but has not pitched more than three innings in any other appearance since going six innings on July 10. All told, Peters has a 3.71 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 63 strikeouts in 53.1 innings through 13 appearances at Triple-A. It's unclear if he will be making a spot start or if he could stick in the rotation going forward.

Joining big-league roster
Peters was recalled by the Pirates on Friday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact
Peters has shown very little in 132.2 career major-league innings (24 starts and seven relief appearances), struggling to a 5.83 ERA and 1.61 WHIP while striking out just 16.7 percent of opposing batters. It looks as though he's up as a reliever for his first opportunity with his new team, which acquired him in a trade for cash considerations from the Angels in mid-July.
