Sawyer Gipson-Long - Undergoes hip surgery Gipson-Long (elbow) underwent left hip labral repair surgery Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Impact Gipson-Long was already done for the season after having Tommy John surgery in April and he now has an additional operation to come back from. The hip surgery shouldn't alter his timeline, although the hurler will likely be out until around midseason of next year.

Mark Canha - Not in Tuesday's lineup Canha is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians.

Impact Canha has just five hits in his past 51 at-bats and will sit Tuesday after starting the previous three games. Justyn-Henry Malloy will serve as the designated hitter for Tuesday's matchup with Cleveland.

Jace Jung - Reinstated from IL at Triple-A Jung (wrist) was activated from the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Impact Jung went down with right wrist soreness in mid-June but recently returned on a rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland, going 3-for-10 at the plate. The top prospect has put up an impressive .270/.390/.500 line with 11 home runs over 64 games this season with Toledo. The 23-year-old could be a factor for the Tigers late in the season.

Shelby Miller - Shuts door for first 2024 save Miller tossed a scoreless ninth inning with a strikeout to earn the save in Monday's 1-0 win over the Guardians.

Impact Miller got the call with no margin for error and he efficiently shut Cleveland down on 13 pitches to earn his first save of the season and just the second of his 12-year MLB career. The team showed a lot of faith in the veteran, who entered the contest with a 5.97 ERA, but he was much better last season with a 1.71 ERA for the Dodgers. If Miller can get anywhere close to that form down the stretch, he'll be a bullpen weapon for the Tigers and a potentially valuable fantasy asset if he sees more save opportunities.

Tyler Holton - Records win Monday Holton (4-1) tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in Monday's 1-0 victory over the Guardians.

Impact After Detroit starter Keider Montero was lights out through 6.1 innings, Holton got the call to get the last two outs of the seventh with a runner on and the game tied 0-0. The lefty escaped the frame, then breezed through the top of the eighth before snagging the win when the Tigers scored once in the bottom of the inning. After a dominant 2023 campaign in which he posted a 2.11 ERA and 0.87 WHIP across 85.1 innings, Holton has taken a slight step back in 2024, though he's still been very solid with a 3.64 ERA and identical 0.87 WHIP. The ratios alone give him some fantasy appeal, though his value would increase if he slid into the closer role at some point.

Keider Montero - Dazzles in no-decision Monday Montero tossed 6.1 scoreless innings but did not factor into the decision in Monday's game against the Guardians. He allowed three hits and a walk, while striking out four.

Impact Montero certainly pitched well enough to earn his second win in the majors, but Gavin Williams was equally as impressive for Cleveland, though the Tigers scored once in the eighth for a 1-0 win. After allowing nine runs over 8.2 innings in his first two MLB appearances, Montero has turned things around, allowing just two runs across 12.2 innings in his two most recent outings. The 24-year-old has good stuff, and given his recent performances, he may stick in the rotation for the foreseeable future. He's currently penciled in to start again Saturday against the Dodgers before the All-Star break.

Justyn-Henry Malloy - Sitting in second straight Malloy is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Impact Malloy will take a seat for the second day in a row against a right-handed pitcher (Gavin Williams) while the Tigers roll with Mark Canha as their designated hitter. Though his usage of late hasn't been encouraging, Malloy has performed passably since getting the call to the big leagues June 3. Through his first 27 MLB games, Malloy is hitting just .195 with a 36 percent strikeout rate, though he's provided some pop (four home runs, two doubles) and is walking in 10.1 percent of his plate appearances. He'll likely see his playing time dip when the Tigers are at full strength, but unless his production drops further, Malloy should at least have a semi-regular spot in the lineup until Detroit gets Kerry Carpenter (back) and/or Parker Meadows (hamstring) back from the injured list.

Carson Kelly - Sitting again Monday Kelly is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Impact The playing time at catcher had been swinging in Kelly's favor lately, but he'll end up hitting the bench for a second straight day Monday. Tigers manager A.J. Impact Baddoo returns to Detroit's 26-man active roster as a replacement for Austin Meadows (hamstring), who was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Though Meadows had been operating as an everyday player for the brief time he was up with the big club, Baddoo projects to serve as a fourth outfielder behind primary starters Riley Greene, Wenceel Perez and Matt Vierling. Javier Báez - Activated, starting Monday The Tigers reinstated Baez (back) from the 10-day injured list Monday. He'll start at shortstop and bat seventh in the Tigers' series opener versus the Guardians.

Impact Detroit optioned infielder Ryan Kreidler to Triple-A Toledo to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Baez, who missed a month of action while recovering from lumbar spine inflammation. Baez proved his health while playing in rehab games with Toledo on four consecutive days last week and will immediately step back into an everyday role in the middle infield for Detroit. Before landing on the shelf, Baez had been among baseball's least productive regulars, accruing a .183/.209/.247 slash line with one home run and six stolen bases over 53 games. Despite his reputation and past production, the 31-year-old looks to be little more than an accumulator -- and a low-end one, at that -- rather than a true fantasy asset at this stage of his career.

Parker Meadows - Lands on IL with strained hamstring The Tigers placed Meadows on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right hamstring strain.

Impact The timing is a bummer, as Meadows had just been recalled from Triple-A Toledo and gone 4-for-11 with one home run and one stolen base in three games since rejoining the big club. He will be eligible for activation at the start of the second half, but it's too soon to know whether he'll have a shot to be back at that time.
