Riley Greene - More running at Comerica on Tuesday Greene (hamstring) ran sprints and was expected to run the bases at Comerica Park on Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact It was reported previously that Greene was in line to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. While he's not quite ready for that yet, the hope is he'll be ready to join Toledo at some point this week. Greene has been sidelined since late July with a right hamstring strain.

Kerry Carpenter - Set for activation Tuesday Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said on MLB Network Radio that Carpenter (back) would be activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Impact He played four rehab games with Triple-A Toledo, going 3-for-14 with one double and a 5:1 K:BB, and that was evidently enough to convince the Tigers he was ready. Carpenter has been sidelined since late May with a lumbar spine stress fracture. The Tigers might ease him back into things with extra days off versus left-handed pitching, but Carpenter is worth scooping back up in fantasy leagues where he was dropped. He posted a .914 OPS with eight homers in 50 games earlier this season for Detroit before getting hurt.

Kevin McGonigle - Hits IL with hamate fracture High-A West Michigan placed McGonigle on its injured list Monday with a hamate fracture of his right hand.
Impact McGonigle is a left-handed hitter, but since the injury is to his throwing hand, he may not be cleared to return to game action before West Michigan's season ends Sept. 8. The shortstop has acquitted himself well as a 19-year-old in the Midwest League this season, slashing .214/.368/.357 with a home run and two stolen bases over 57 plate appearances since receiving a promotion from Single-A Lakeland shortly after the All-Star break.

Keider Montero - Earns another win Sunday Montero (3-5) allowed four runs on five hits across five innings of work to earn the win Sunday against the Giants. He walked four and struck out two.
Impact While Montero managed to earn his second straight win, he was much less effective Sunday compared to his last outing on Tuesday, when he allowed just one run over six innings. Overall, the rookie now has a 5.76 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 54.2 innings, making him a risky fantasy proposition moving forward. He at least has been a little bit better lately, turning in a 4.50 ERA across his last three appearances. Montero will aim for his third straight win when he takes the mound again next weekend against the Yankees, which projects to be a tricky matchup for the young righty.

Matt Vierling - Hits leadoff home run Sunday Vierling went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, an additional run scored and two total RBI in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Giants
Impact Vierling started the game with a leadoff home run, his 14th long ball of the season. The utility player is setting a new career best with each blast, and he now has a career high 46 RBI this year as well. His .737 OPS would also be his best since recording an .843 mark across 34 games with the Phillies during his 2021 rookie campaign. Vierling should continue to see regular playing time for the Tigers in the outfield and at third base, giving him decent fantasy value as long as he stays productive at the plate.

Impact Dingler collected his first home run and first multi-hit game at the MLB level. Through seven appearances, the rookie catcher is now batting .208 with a .727 OPS. Dingler is splitting time behind the plate with Jake Rogers, though the latter is mired in a 1-for-23 slump. As a result, Dingler could take on a larger share of the work at least in the short term, which would give his fantasy value a slight boost.

Jason Foley - Not used in save chance Sunday Foley did not appear in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Giants, with Will Vest earning the save instead.
Impact Foley last pitched on Friday and before that on Wednesday, so he seemingly should have been available for the save opportunity Sunday. Instead, Will Vest was used and earned his first save of the season. Foley leads the Tigers with 15 saves, but he's also struggled a bit recently, as he has a 5.68 ERA and 1.74 WHIP since the beginning of July. Foley has a tenuous hold on the closer role, and with six Detroit relievers now having saves this year, it's a fairly murky bullpen situation at this point.

Impact Vest blew a save in his last appearance Thursday when he allowed two runs while retiring only two batters. The veteran righty bounced back with a better performance Sunday to earn his first save of the season. Jason Foley leads Detroit with 15 saves but he wasn't used in Sunday's game after last pitching on Friday. Six players on the Tigers now have saves this year after Vest recorded his first, making this a murky bullpen at best currently.

Reese Olson - Limited to playing catch The Tigers announced Friday that Olson (shoulder) continues to make progress in his throwing distance and volume off flat ground, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact While the fact that Olson isn't shut down from throwing can be taken as a positive sign, the Tigers haven't offered any indication that he's close to a return from the 15-day injured list after being deactivated July 21 due to a right shoulder strain. With approximately six weeks left in the regular season, Olson will probably need to advance to throwing bullpen sessions and facing hitters in the next two weeks in order to have sufficient time to get stretched back out as a starter. Before landing on the shelf, Olson had been a pleasant surprise for the Tigers and fantasy managers alike through his first 19 starts of the season, logging a 3.23 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 92:31 K:BB across 103 innings.

Impact Greene is traveling with the Tigers and is scheduled to run the bases in San Francisco on Sunday, and he may do so again Monday in Detroit. If all goes well, the Tigers will then formally clear Greene to join Toledo for the rehab assignment. He'll likely need to play the outfield at some point during his time with Toledo before being activated from the 10-day injured list, which could happen as soon as next weekend. Greene has been on the IL since July 26 with a right hamstring strain.

Impact Mize began his rehab assignment at Toledo on Thursday, striking out two batters and allowing three hits and one walk over 2.1 scoreless innings. The right-hander tossed 35 pitches in the start and generated six whiffs on 15 swings while sporting a fastball that averaged 93.5 miles per hour. Mize is expected to make four total rehab starts in the minors before returning from the 60-day injured list around the time that he's first eligible Aug. 30.

Impact While Detroit hasn't revealed the severity of the left oblique strain Perez suffered in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Giants, the outfielder might be dealing with a Grade 2 or 3 injury, given that the Tigers are anticipating him being out for well beyond the minimum 10 days. Akil Baddoo was called up from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday and will be making his second straight start in the outfield in Sunday's series finale in San Francisco, but Zach McKinstry and Ryan Vilade are also candidates to see more playing time in the corner outfield while Perez is on the shelf. Before suffering the injury, Perez's production had been slowing down lately, but the rookie has still turned in decent fantasy statistics (.242 average, nine home runs, nine stolen bases, 49 runs and 32 RBI) through his first 97 big-league games.

Impact McKinstry will be filling in for a resting Javier Baez on Sunday, but the 29-year-old could begin to gain more traction in a regular role in the outfield after Wenceel Perez (oblique) joined Riley Greene (hamstring) on the injured list Saturday. The utility man is included in the lineup Sunday for the sixth time in seven games and has picked up starts at shortstop, second base, third base and in left field during that stretch. He's getting on base at a .348 clip since the beginning of August.

Impact Vilade had started in right field in each of the past three games, but he went hitless with five strikeouts in nine at-bats and is now slashing .178/.208/.244 over 49 plate appearances with the Tigers on the season.
