Could be used in outfield Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Hamilton may occasionally play in the outfield this season, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Impact Cora added that the Red Sox would like Hamilton to be as versatile as possible for the sake of roster flexibility. The 27-year-old has been used exclusively at second base and shortstop throughout his MLB career, though he has started eight games in center field in the minors.

Impact Hamilton suffered the injured when he was hit by a pitch in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays and subsequent X-rays revealed the fracture. It's not clear how much time he might miss, but it figures to be longer than a minimum IL stay. Nick Sogard is taking Hamilton's spot on the roster and will be an option for starts at second base along with Romy Gonzalez and Mickey Gasper.
