INJURIES

Scheduled for live BP session Jimenez (shoulder) will throw live batting practice Saturday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
Impact Oakland's Opening Day closer, Jimenez had his season interrupted early on by a right shoulder strain. After a fairly long shutdown period, Jimenez began ramping up and now appears to be on the verge of embarking on a minor-league rehab assignment. He's no sure thing to return to the closer role, but it's possible he could end up back in the ninth if the A's trade other bullpen arms but hold on to Jimenez, who is not arbitration eligible until 2025.

Throws bullpen session Jimenez (shoulder) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Thursday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact He's finally throwing off the mound again after missing nearly three months with a right shoulder strain. Jimenez will eventually go out on a rehab assignment when deemed ready and is going to require multiple rehab appearances before rejoining the Athletics' bullpen.

Encouraging throwing session Jimenez (shoulder) threw from 90 feet on flat ground Tuesday, the team's official site reports.
Impact Jimenez's stay on the injured list has now exceeded two months, but the right-hander's recovery does seem to be gathering some momentum. Jimenez had been throwing from 60 feet in early June, so the increase in distance without apparent setbacks is encouraging. However, he remains without a timetable for return at the moment, and a fairly lengthy rehab assignment will be in order before activation is considered.
JUNE 28, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Throwing up to 60 feet Jimenez (shoulder) has begun throwing and has worked up to 60 feet, the team's official site reports.
Impact The report is particularly encouraging considering Jimenez, who's been on the injured list since April 19 with a right shoulder strain, didn't have a throwing program in his sights as recently as the last week of May. The solid early throwing distance is a cautiously optimistic sign, but manager Mark Kotsay confirmed there is still no timetable for Jimenez's return.
JUNE 4, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Not yet throwing Jimenez continues to rehabilitate his shoulder strain but has yet to begin throwing, the Associated Press reports.
Impact The right-hander was transferred to the 60-day injured list back on April 19, a move that has proven to be more than procedural considering Jimenez still seems to be a ways away from returning. The 29-year-old will undoubtedly be in line for a lengthy rehab assignment if and when he's able to begin ramping back up for game action.
MAY 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Transferred to 60-day IL JImenez (shoulder) was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list by the Athletics on Wednesday.
Impact It clears up a spot on the 40-man roster for Mason Miller. Jimenez was just placed on the injured list Tuesday with his right shoulder strain, and now the Athletics will be without the reliever for at least the next two months. Trevor May was also placed on the IL while dealing with anxiety, so the closer position for the Athletics is very much influx.
APRIL 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Placed on IL with shoulder injury Jimenez was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained right shoulder by the Athletics on Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Jimenez blew his save chance Sunday against the Mets and didn't pitch during Monday's 10-1 loss to the Cubs. Adam Oller has been recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. While Jimenez is out, Trevor May is likely to see the majority of the save chances that are presented.
APRIL 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Can't hold down save Sunday Jimenez was charged with a blown save in Sunday's loss to the Mets after allowing one run on one hit and three walks over just a third of an inning.
Impact Jimenez was able to get Francsico Lindor to ground out to begin the ninth before Pete Alonso tied things up with a monstrous blast to center field. Jimenez then proceeded to implode, walking three straight batters before being replaced by Sam Moll who wound up bailing him out after getting Eduardo Escobar to ground into a 6-4-3 double play. The 29-year-old has just one save on the year with the A's having lost 10 of their last 11, but still seems to be in the late-inning mix. After Sunday's outing, Jimenez owns a 5.40 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 4:6 K:BB over 6.2 innings.
APRIL 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Secures save in season opener Jimenez earned a save against the Angels on Thursday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning during which he allowed one walk and struck out one batter.
Impact Oakland's closer situation has been hazy throughout the spring, but it may have gained some clarity on Opening Day. With the A's trailing by a run heading into the eighth inning, manager Mark Kotsay turned to Trevor May, and after the team took the lead in the bottom of the frame, Jimenez was called upon to close things out in the ninth. The right-hander responded well to the situation, working around a one-out walk to shut the door. It would be premature to declare Jimenez a full-time closer, but he could be the most frequent recipient of save opportunities for Oakland given his success Thursday and the 11 saves he recorded last season.

A possible option for saves Jimenez, Trevor May and Jeurys Familia could all be used in closer situations this season, Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle on Sunday...
Impact JImenez led the team with 11 saves last season, but his year ended with a shoulder injury and he's had velocity issues this spring. The 29-year-old could emerge as the team's best option if he's able to regain his velocity, but for now he's a mediocre reliever in a committee situation on a bad team.
MARCH 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Struggling with velocity Jimenez has struggled with his velocity this spring, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Jimenez was throwing just 88-89 mph in his first Cactus League appearance before bumping it up to 91-93 mph his second time out. That's still down a bit from what he threw in 2022, which is especially concerning since he ended last season with a shoulder injury. Jimenez entered camp as arguably the favorite to close for the Athletics, but he'll probably need to show better velocity in order for the team to trust him in the role. Trevor May, Zach Jackson and Domingo Acevedo are alternatives for the closer job.
MARCH 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Makes spring debut Jimenez (shoulder) struck out a batter and worked around a base hit in a scoreless inning of relief in Sunday's 11-4 win over the Brewers in Cactus League play.
Impact With Jimenez making his debut in the Athletics' second game of the spring slate, he appears to be operating at full strength during camp after a right shoulder strain shelved him for the final five weeks of the 2022 season. Before succumbing to the injury, Jimenez turned in a 3.41 ERA and 1.19 WHIP while striking out 34 over 34.1 innings. He had a brief run of fantasy relevance as Oakland's closer, bagging 11 saves in 14 chances before injuries derailed him from August onward. The Athletics' closer situation remains unsettled heading into Opening Day, and Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reported earlier in February that Jimenez is "probably the favorite get save opportunities early in the season" in light of his success as a rookie. Lockard suggests that offseason pickup Trevor May as well as Zach Jackson are other possible candidates to claim the ninth-inning role.
