Impact It was a bit of an eventful inning for the right-handed reliever, who ended up facing five hitters after allowing Daniel Murphy to reach safely by uncorking a wild pitch on a strikeout and then surrendering a double to Ryan McMahon. However, Wendelken impressively wiggled out of trouble with back-to-back whiffs to end the inning in what was only his second appearance of the season. The 27-year-old has been an effective middle-relief piece for manager Bob Melvin the last two seasons in particular, logging 49.1 innings across 40 appearances during that span.

Impact Welker had previously received an invitation to big-league spring training, so his inclusion in the Rockies' 60-man pool doesn't come as a major surprise. Though Welker was drafted as a third baseman, his most realistic home at the MLB level will likely come across the diamond, given his defensive limitations at the hot corner. He's unlikely to make his big-league debut in 2020 unless both Daniel Murphy and Ryan McMahon are forced to miss time at some point during the 60-game season.

Impact The addition of the designated hitter to the National League this season should bring additional opportunities, but it appears to be a more indirect benefit for the 25-year-old. Beyond the utility usage, Hampson should see somewhat regular time at the keystone as starter Ryan McMahon should cover first base when Daniel Murphy serves as the DH. However, top prospect Brendan Rodgers and veteran Chris Owings are also in the mix as options at second base.

Still, the veteran slugger will see some time as the DH this season to help keep him fresh, especially with the limited off days. Starting second baseman Ryan McMahon likely will slide over to first base in those instances, while Garrett Hampson, Brendan Rodgers and Chris Owings split time at the keystone.
