Collects third save
Hudson struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his third save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Mets.
Impact
The veteran right-hander has been mostly effective to begin the year, getting scored upon in only one of his six appearances and converting three of his four save chances. With Sean Doolittle working in low-leverage spots right now as he tries to regain the late movement on his fastball, Hudson has the closer job to himself.

Nabs another save
Hudson allowed one walk and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Tuesday against the Mets.
Impact
Hudson was called upon to protect a 5-3 lead, and successfully did so on 14 pitches to record his second save of the season. The only baserunner he allowed came on a walk with two outs, and Hudson retired the next batter he faced to end the contest. Notably, Hudson has claimed both saves for the Nationals this season, and Sean Doolittle did not even appear in a setup role in the contest.

Picks up first save
Hudson allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Thursday against the Blue Jays.
Impact
Hudson successfully maintained a two-run lead for the Nationals to earn his first save of the season. He allowed a two-out double, but retired Cavan Biggio with a strikeout to end the contest. Most notably, Sean Doolittle -- another candidate for saves in the Nationals' bullpen -- did not enter the game, even with the team maintaining a lead from start to finish. Given that Doolittle has pitched only twice this season, he was almost certainly available to throw. Given that, it appears Hudson may be the team's primary choice to close games to begin the season.

Dominant in relief win
Hudson (1-0) struck out three over 1.2 perfect innings of relief to pick up the win in Wednesday's extra-inning victory over the Blue Jays.
Impact
Facing the team that dealt him to the eventual world champs last July, Hudson was lights out to finish off the eighth inning and breezed through the ninth in a scoreless game, before the Nats were able to break it open in the top of the 10th. The veteran right-hander has a 4:0 K:BB through his first 2.2 innings on the year without giving up a run, and his spot as one of the team's key high-leverage arms is secure.

Tagged with loss Sunday
Doolittle (0-1) allowed one run on two hits and a walk over 0.2 innings Sunday to take the loss as the Nationals fell 3-2 to the Yankees. He struck out one.
Impact
The southpaw entered the game in a non-save situation to begin the eighth inning with the score tied 2-2, but he wasn't able to shut down the Yankees' offense. Doolittle was expected to share closing duties with Daniel Hudson this season, but given that Hudson was manager Dave Martinez's first choice in the ninth during the club's World Series run last year, Doolittle's usage here should be a little concerning to those fantasy GMs counting on him for saves.
