Out with oblique strain
Burnes was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left oblique strain.
Impact
The 25-year-old exited Thursday's start during the fourth inning with lower back discomfort, but further evaluation showed it to be an oblique issue. Thursday's outing was already Burnes' final start of the regular season, but the injury removes him from consideration to pitch during the Wild Card round next week should Milwaukee qualify. According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, manager Craig Counsell said the severity of the injury will likely sideline the right-hander through the second round of the playoffs, if the Brewers are even still playing. Burnes finishes a breakout 2020 campaign with a 2.11 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 88:24 K:BB over 59.2 innings.

Leaves start with back discomfort
Burnes exited Thursday's start against the Cardinals with lower back discomfort, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Burnes initially talked his way into staying in the game after an initial visit from trainers, but was ultimately removed with two outs in the fourth. Initial reports indicated the right-hander was displaying discomfort with his pitching hand, but it now appears that his back was the issue. According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, manager Craig Counsell said the club would have a better idea of Burnes's status Friday. Should the Brewers qualify for the postseason, they will certainly hope Burnes can pitch one of their games in the Wild Card round.

Dominates again
Burnes (4-0) allowed four hits and no walks while striking out nine across six innings to earn the win Saturday against Kansas City.
Impact
Burnes racked up 20 swinging strikes on 100 total pitches, and he's now fanned nine or more batters in four of his last five starts. He held the Royals' bats completely in check as all four of the hits he surrendered were base knocks. Burnes has been on a tear to close the season, as he's now allowed one earned run across his last 29.2 frames while racking up a 47:6 K:BB. He's currently in line to take his final turn through the rotation Thursday at St. Louis.

Impact
Burnes wasn't very efficient, needing 101 pitches to get through just 4.2 innings, but he still managed double-digit punchouts for the third time in his last four outings. He was removed before allowing a run but was charged with one after Alex Claudio let an inherited runner score. The 25-year-old owns a stellar 74:22 K:BB and 1.98 ERA across 50 innings this season. Burnes will look to keep rolling against the Royals at home Saturday.
