Michael Toglia - Making most of plate appearances Toglia went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Wednesday against the Nationals.
Impact Toglia has gotten five consecutive starts at first base with C.J. Cron (back) sidelined. He's now collected hits in each of his last three games while tallying a double, a homer, three RBI and three runs scored. Cron is expected back Friday, so Toglia's playing time in the short term will likely dry up, but he could see more run across the final two months of the campaign depending on the Rockies' moves at the trade deadline.

Daniel Bard - Can't find strike zone Bard (4-2) allowed four earned runs on four walks and one hit while striking out none across 0.2 innings to blow the save and take the loss Wednesday against the Nationals.
Impact Justin Lawrence had pitched in three of the last five days entering Wednesday's game, likely leaving him unavailable for the matchup. As a result, Bard got the chance to close out the game with a three-run lead, however, he allowed the first three batters he faced to reach base and was charged with four earned runs despite letting only one ball leave the infield. He has turned in scoreless appearances in seven of nine tries in July, though control of the zone continues to be a major problem as he has a 6:8 K:BB across 10 frames in that span.

Elehuris Montero - Hits two-run shot Montero went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.
Impact Montero jumped on a hanging curveball from Jake Irvin in his first at-bat of the contest and sent it into the stands in left field, scoring Harold Castro as the Rockies took a 2-0 lead. The 24-year-old third baseman would then go down on strikes in each of his next three plate appearances as Colorado fell to the Nationals in dramatic fashion. It was certainly a nice start for Montero in his return to the lineup after being promoted from Triple-A, though he's now struck out seven times over his last three games in the big leagues.
