Brady Singer - Out with back strain Singer was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a left lower lumbar strain.
Impact The right-hander presumably picked up the injury during Monday's start against Cleveland, during which he gave up four runs over six innings. Singer had a strong six-week stretch from late June to mid-August with a 3.05 ERA across 59 innings, but he moves to the injured list having surrendered 24 earned runs in his past five starts. The 27-year-old won't be eligible to return until after the end of the regular season, and he closes the campaign with a 5.52 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 133:49 K:BB in 159.2 frames. Singer is entering his second year of arbitration eligibility and has more than four months to get healthy for spring training.

Johnathan Rodriguez - Mashing in upper levels Rodriguez is hitting .285 with 10 home runs and a 33.5 percent strikeout rate in 42 games since getting promoted to Triple-A Columbus.
Impact A prospect of note several years ago, Rodriguez has put himself back on the radar this year after underwhelming (79 wRC+) at an age-appropriate level (Double-A) in 2022. Given that Rodriguez is destined for right field, the bar for him to clear against big-league pitching will be high, but he hit 28 homers with a .288 average and a .369 OBP while registering an elite 35.2 percent hard-hit rate across Double-A and Triple-A this year. He will need to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason if the Guardians want to protect him from the Rule 5 draft heading into his age-24 season.

Triston McKenzie - Second rehab start coming Tuesday McKenzie (elbow) is set to make the second start of his rehab assignment Tuesday at Triple-A Columbus, MLB.com reports.
Impact After covering three innings and tossing 44 pitches in his first rehab outing last Wednesday with Double-A Akron, McKenzie will shift his rehab assignment to the Guardians' top affiliate this week for what will likely be his final start in the minors before he returns from the 60-day injured list. The Guardians are targeting McKenzie for around 65 pitches Tuesday, and if all goes well, he could slot back into the big-league rotation as soon as this Sunday versus the Orioles. McKenzie has been on the shelf since mid-June with a right UCL sprain.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2023 ROTOWIRE
Daniel Lynch - Nearing rehab assignment Lynch (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session with Triple-A Omaha this week and is expected to make at least one rehab appearance there soon, MLB.com reports.
Impact It does not sound like Lynch will make it back to the Royals' active roster this season, but make some appearances before the season comes to a close could give the lefty some peace of mind heading into the winter. Lynch has been limited to just nine starts for Kansas City along with five rehab starts in 2023 due to shoulder issues.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2023 ROTOWIRE
John McMillon - Throwing off mound McMillon (forearm) resumed throwing off the mound on Sept. 15, MLB.com reports.
Impact McMillon is progressing well from his right forearm strain and could be ready for a rehab assignment later this month. However, the Royals want to be cautious with their talented young relief arm, so it sounds like they're unlikely to activate him before the end of the season. McMillon has been out since late August.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2023 ROTOWIRE
Shane Bieber - Tracking toward return this week Bieber (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday and, if it goes well, is expected to rejoin the Guardians' rotation later this week, MLB.com reports.
Impact The Guardians do not have a starter listed yet for Thursday's home game against the Orioles, so that slot could go to Bieber if feels good off the mound Tuesday. Bieber fanned seven and gave up no hits and three walks over 3.2 scoreless frames in a rehab start with Triple-A Columbus on Sunday. He threw 64 pitches in the outing, so the righty would be relatively limited from a pitch count perspective in his first start back. Bieber has been sidelined since mid-July with right elbow inflammation.
