Impact After recording four outs in a 16-pitch appearance in Monday's 7-6 win, Perez will likely be capped at an inning or two in his start before turning the game over to the bullpen. Kodai Senga will be available on three days' rest and could be a candidate to cover multiple innings in long relief once Perez exits the game.

Working as opener Sunday Perez will start Sunday's contest against Philadelphia, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports.

Impact Perez began the campaign with Washington before joining the Mets on a minor-league deal in early May. The lefty hurler was brought up to the big-league club May 30 and has appeared in 10 contests, posting a 3.68 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 14:1 K:BB over 14.2 innings. Perez hasn't tossed more than 32 pitches in an outing this season, so he presumably won't go very deep Sunday. It's unclear who will follow Perez on the mound, and New York may opt for a bullpen game rather than deploying a bulk reliever.

Impact Perez joined the Mets on a minor-league deal May 6 and has since given up two earned runs in seven innings at Triple-A Syracuse while striking out 10 batters and walking five. He'll now return to the majors to replace Tobias Myers in the Mets' bullpen and likely work in low-leverage situations to begin with. Anderson Severino was designated for assignment to make room for Perez on the 40-man roster.

Impact Perez secured a spot on the Nationals' Opening Day roster coming out of spring training but was dropped from the 40-man roster last week after submitting a 6.19 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 9:11 K:BB in 16 innings. After clearing waivers, Perez elected to become a free agent and was able to quickly catch on with a new organization. Perez is expected to report to Triple-A Syracuse and will likely need to show improved control before he receives a look in the New York bullpen.

Impact Despite pitching the ninth inning with a three-run lead, Perez was officially credited with a win and not a save as the Nationals' other relievers hasn't exactly been effective -- between them, Ken Waldichuk and Andre Granillo coughed up five runs in three innings. It's still intriguing high-leverage usage for Perez given the unsettled nature of the Washington bullpen, but the 29-year-old southpaw has only avoided allowing any runs himself in two of his five appearances to begin the season, stumbling to a 14.73 ERA and 3:2 K:BB in 3.2 innings.

Impact The 29-year-old lefty entered the game with two outs in the seventh inning and retired Kyle Schwarber, but Bryce Harper then took Perez deep to lead off the eighth as the Nationals' bullpen squandered a 5-0 lead. Perez may not hang onto a high-leverage role much longer if he can't keep the ball in the park -- he's served up two homers in his first three appearances and 2.2 innings this season, although his 3:0 K:BB is more promising than his 6.75 ERA.
