Lands on injured list
Ellis was placed on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation Tuesday.
Impact
Ellis was pulled after three innings Sunday against the Rangers with what was originally referred to as arm fatigue, an issue which caused his previous start to be skipped. It's now clear that the issue is serious enough to send him to the injured list, which ends his season given that there's less than a week left to play. Ellis posted a 2.15 ERA in six starts and one relief appearance this season, but his peripherals were poor across the board. his 19.0 percent strikeout rate, 11.6 percent walk rate and 27.2 percent groundball rate were all significantly worse than league average.

Arm fatigue resurfaces
Ellis was pulled after three innings Saturday against the Rangers due to arm fatigue, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact
Ellis was skipped in the rotation earlier in the week due to arm fatigue, and the issue cropped up again after he was cleared to start Saturday's contest. He still pitched well with three scoreless frames, but with only a week left in the regular season, it could end up meaning he's already taken the mound for the final time in 2021.

Gets early hook against Rangers
Ellis allowed two hits and one walk with two strikeouts over three innings, taking a no-decision in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Rangers.
Impact
Ellis allowed just a pair of singles Saturday night against Texas before getting an early hook from manager Brandon Hyde. The right-hander's spot in the rotation was skipped Sept. 21 after Ellis reported some arm fatigue, so his premature exit could be due to lingering effects or perhaps it was simply out of an abundance of caution. With the Orioles' season long over, it's unclear how (or if) the 29-year-old will be used moving forward.

Cleared to start Saturday
Ellis (arm) will start Saturday's game against the Rangers, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Ellis was skipped in the rotation earlier this week due to arm fatigue, but he's good to retake the mound Saturday versus Texas. The 29-year-old has pitched well in his first extended taste of the majors this year with a 2.39 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 21:13 K:BB over 26.1 innings.

Not starting due to arm fatigue
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Ellis won't start Tuesday's road game in Philadelphia due to arm fatigue and will be pushed back "a couple of days" in the team's pitching schedul...
Impact
The Orioles haven't confirmed any of their starting pitchers beyond Wednesday (Keegan Akin), so assuming he moves past his bout with arm fatigue quickly, Ellis could be an option to make his next start as soon as Thursday versus the Rangers. Baltimore will treat Tuesday's contest as a bullpen day, with reliever Conner Greene serving as the team's opening pitcher.

Struggles with control
Ellis allowed two earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out three across 4.2 innings Thursday against the Yankees. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact
Ellis ran into trouble in the second inning, when he allowed four runners to reach base -- two of which came via walks. He was effective in preventing runs otherwise, though he was pulled with 84 pitches after an inefficient outing. While Ellis has regularly failed to work deep into games -- he's failed to finish five innings in four of his six starts -- he's also maintained a 2.39 ERA across 26.1 innings in the majors this season. However, his 21:13 K:BB suggests he's significantly overperforming and he could run into some rough outings before the season concludes.

Another solid start
Ellis allowed one run on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts in five innings in a no-decision versus Toronto on Friday.
Impact
The right-hander walked too many batters, but it was an otherwise encouraging start yet again. He's posted a 2.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB across 21.2 innings in five appearances between Baltimore and Tampa Bay this year. Ellis figures to continue in the rotation with Matt Harvey (knee) ruled out for the rest of the season. Ellis projects for a home start versus the Yankees next week.

No-hits Yanks over five frames
Ellis didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Yankees, walking three batters and striking out two over five scoreless, no-hit innings.
Impact
The right-hander kept New York off-balance for 92 pitches (53 strikes) before exiting with a 1-0 lead, but the O's bullpen cost Ellis his second win. The 28-year-old sports a 2.16 ERA and 14:5 K:BB through 16.2 innings since being picked up by Baltimore, and he's likely cemented a spot in the rotation for the rest of the season.

Solid in no-decision
Ellis didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 7-3 loss to the Blue Jays, allowing one run on two hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out two.
Impact
The Tampa Bay castoff kept the O's in the game through 69 pitches (41 strikes), only to see the Baltimore bullpen make a mess of things in the sixth and seventh innings. Ellis might be stretched out enough to qualify for a win in his next start, but he'll face a tough challenge in Yankee Stadium on Sunday if he stays on turn.

ROTOWIRE
Sticks around in rotation
Ellis is scheduled to start Monday's series opener against the Blue Jays in Toronto, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.
Impact
Ellis didn't dazzle while starting in his Orioles debut Aug. 25 -- he gave up three runs on five hits over three innings against the Angels -- but the performance was good enough for him to maintain a rotation spot over Spenser Watkins, who was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday. The Orioles should clear Ellis to work deeper into Monday's outing after he tossed only 38 pitches against the Angels, but the matchup with a potent Blue Jays lineup in addition to his unimpressive track record in the minors make it exceedingly difficult to trust the right-hander for fantasy purposes.
