Drew Pomeranz - Plays catch to 120 feet Pomeranz (lat) played catch up to 120 feet Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Impact Though he has yet to return to a mound, the fact that Pomeranz has been able to extend his throwing distance is a positive sign after he was temporarily shut down from throwing in late May. Even more encouraging is manager Jayce Tingler's comment that Pomeranz has made "significant improvements" since the setback. The left-hander remains weeks away from rejoining the big club, but a return in late June is not out of the question.

Manny Machado - Plates San Diego's lone run Machado went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.

Impact Machado notched his 37th RBI of the season following an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning that scored Tommy Pham, but he would remain silent the rest of the way. The star third baseman has hit safely in nine of the Padres' last 12 games, though, and he has racked up two homers, nine RBI and a .846 OPS during that stretch.

Yu Darvish - Takes loss despite quality start Darvish (6-2) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against the Cubs despite giving up two runs on three hits and two walks while fanning eight across seven innings.

Impact Darvish looked excellent on the mound and notched his eighth quality start of the campaign, but that wasn't enough to extend his undefeated streak to nine appearances due to the lack of run support. Darvish has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the National League this season, however, and he improved his ERA to a blistering 2.28 over 79 innings across 13 starts. His next start should be a tough one, however, as he lines up to face the Rockies on the road next week.

Rex Brothers - Earns second win Brothers (2-0) pitched a scoreless inning of relief and earned the win Wednesday against the Padres. He struck out two.

Impact Brothers pitched the sixth inning of a 1-1 game, then grabbed the win when the Cubs moved ahead in the top of the seventh. The lefty has been solid with a 3.05 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 20.2 innings this season, though his middle relief role doesn't always lend itself to a ton of fantasy value.
