A.J. Puk - Grabs fifth save Puk picked up the save in Sunday's 4-3 victory over the Cubs, tallying a strikeout in a scoreless inning.
Impact Puk has now pitched 11 consecutive scoreless innings. He's allowed just one run this season, coming on Pete Alonso's homer on March 31. Puk is a perfect 5-for-5 in save chances with a 0.75 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB. He's firmly established himself as the full-time closer in Miami.
APRIL 30, 2023 ROTOWIRE
Keegan Thompson - Suffers first loss Sunday Thompson (1-1) allowed a run on one hit and a walk while retiring one batter to take the loss Sunday against the Marlins.
Impact Thompson was charged with an earned run in the eighth inning, which broke a 3-3 tie, and the Marlins hung on for the 4-3 win. Despite the hiccup, Thompson has been good so far with a 1.80 ERA and 12 strikeouts across 15 innings of relief work. He should remain a key multi-inning bullpen option for the Cubs, and if a need ever arises in the rotation, he does have starting experience at the MLB level.
APRIL 30, 2023 ROTOWIRE
Bryan Hoeing - Solid against Cubs Hoeing did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over five innings in a 4-3 victory over the Cubs. He struck out four.
Impact Sunday's start was certainly a step forward for Koenig, who allowed four runs in 3.2 innings in his first outing against Atlanta. He lowered his ERA to 6.23 through 8.2 innings with a 6:3 K:BB. Hoeing looked good in the minors this year, pitching to a 2.08 ERA with 20:2 K:BB in three starts with Triple-A Jacksonville. He should see at least one more turn in the Marlins' rotation with Trevor Rogers (biceps) still shut down from throwing.
APRIL 30, 2023 ROTOWIRE
Cody Bellinger - Pops seventh home run Sunday Bellinger went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two total RBI in Sunday's loss to the Marlins.
Impact Bellinger continues his strong start with his new team, as he now has seven home runs, 18 RBI and a .975 OPS across 24 games. The last time he had an OPS of .900 or above, Bellinger was taking home the NL MVP award in 2019. There's a lot of season left before Bellinger can be talked about as a serious MVP candidate in 2023, but he's had a tremendous bounceback so far either way.
APRIL 30, 2023 ROTOWIRE
Justin Steele - Quality start in no decision Steele did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk over six innings in a 4-3 loss against the Marlins. He struck out three.
Impact Steele is off to an excellent start this season, recording quality starts in five out of his six outings, and has yet to allow more than two earned runs in a start. The 27-year-old left-hander is 4-0 with a 1.49 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 32:11 K:BB. Steele has excelled at limiting hard contact while inducing a 56% ground ball rate. He's tentatively lined up to face the Marlins again at home in his next outing.
