DFA'd on Tuesday The Mets designated Shreve for assignment Tuesday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Impact New York needed a roster spot for Max Scherzer and Shreve, having posted a 10.43 ERA in his last 15 appearances, was an obvious choice for demotion. Shreve's poor numbers suggest he'll clear waivers and continue his season with Triple-A Syracuse.

Hit with loss Sunday Shreve (1-1) took the loss Sunday against the Mariners, giving up two runs on two hits while striking out one in one inning of relief.

Impact He entered the game to get the final two outs in the fifth inning with the Mets protecting a 5-4 lead, but Julio Rodriguez led off the sixth with a solo shot, and Shreve allowed another single that also came around to score. The southpaw has served up homers in two straight appearances, but on the season he still sports a 3.38 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB through 13.1 innings with two holds.

Two perfect innings, win Shreve (1-0) earned the win in relief, pitching two perfect innings and striking out two in a 5-0 win Sunday over Arizona.

Impact Shreve entered the game in the sixth inning with the score 0-0 after a leadoff double knocked Trevor Williams out of the game. Shreve retired all six batters he faced and became the pitcher of record when the Mets' offense exploded for five runs. The journeyman reliever has now pitched four perfect innings in a row, striking out six in that span.

Impact The Mets will likely make the move official within the next couple of days when Shreve's contract is purchased from the minors. Shreve, who was attending camp as a non-roster invitee, earned his way on the roster after striking out six and permitting just one walk in four no-hit innings during Grapefruit League play. The 31-year-old lefty is back for his second stint with the Mets, after he split the 2018 campaign between New York and St. Louis. He was most recently part of the Pirates organization in 2021, logging 57 appearances for the big club and compiling a 3.20 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 56.1 innings.

Impact Shreve finished with a 3.20 ERA in 56.1 innings of relief this season, but his peripherals don't support that number very well, as he struck out a career-low 19.1 percent of opposing batters while walking 11.9 percent. Still, as a competent enough lefty reliever, he should be able to find work on the open market.
