INJURIES

Multi-hit effort in win Pinder went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in a loss to the Mariners on Friday.
Impact Pinder mustered the only multi-hit effort of the night for the punchless Athletics, his second such tally in his last two starts. The veteran utility asset has been swinging a productive bat since prior to the All-Star break; Friday's tally puts his batting average and OPS at .265 and .793, respectively, over his last 23 games, a stretch during which he's contributed 19 RBI thanks largely to 10 extra-base hits (five doubles, five home runs) and a .333 average with runners in scoring position.

Breaks out of slump with two hits Pinder went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored in Wednesday's 7-2 victory over Texas.
Impact Pinder was held out of the lineup three out of the last four games as he had been mired in a 1-for-16 slump since Aug. 8, but he broke out of it with two base hits Wednesday. With the A's up big in the eighth inning, Mark Kotsay pulled him to bring in Cal Stevenson in the field. Pinder is now slashing .233/.260/.396 on the season and can hit his way back into the starting lineup as long as Ramon Laureano remains on the shelf.

Retreats to bench Pinder is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
Impact After going 2-for-11 with a solo home run, a double and a walk while starting in three of the past four games, Pinder will head to the bench with right-hander Touki Toussaint on the hill for the Angels. The righty-hitting Pinder still projects to see most of his starts against left-handed pitching moving forward, though he'll occasionally get opportunities versus righties, too.
AUGUST 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Clubs 10th homer Pinder went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Angels.
Impact Pinder prevented the shutout in the ninth inning, but the Athletics never threatened for a comeback. Five of the utility man's 10 homers this year have come in his last 17 contests, though his long ball Tuesday was his first since July 26. The 30-year-old has gone 4-for-19 (.211) in August and now sports a .242/.267/.411 slash line through 278 plate appearances this year.

Steps out of lineup Pinder is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.
Impact Pinder will take a seat after he went 8-for-30 with two home runs, two doubles, eight RBI and three additional runs while starting in eight of the Athletics' first 10 games out of the All-Star break. The Athletics don't have a clear-cut everyday position available for Pinder at the moment, but he should continue to pick up a handful of starts per week as a super-utility man.

Swats second grand slam in July Pinder went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Astros.
Impact Pinder has enjoyed a resurgent July, batting .302 with four homers (including two grand slams) and 17 RBI in 15 contests this month. The 30-year-old's big blast in the third inning was all the offense the Athletics needed to secure Tuesday's win. The utility man is now slashing .247/.272/.418 with nine long balls, 33 RBI, 26 runs scored and two stolen bases through 68 games this year. He's drawn much of his recent playing time in left field or at first base, though the hot hitting should go a long way to keeping him in the lineup against both lefties and righties.

Power surge persists in loss Pinder went 2-for-5 with a two-run double, a solo home run and an additional run in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday.
Impact Pinder wreaked havoc on Rangers pitching in a wild last two innings for the Athletics, first igniting a seven-run rally with his eighth-inning two-bagger and then following it up with a 384-foot laser to left field in the ninth, his eighth homer of the season. The 30-year-old has been on an impressive power-hitting tear since prior to the All-Star break, posting seven extra-base hits (four doubles, three homers), 12 RBI and a .750 slugging percentage over the 33 plate appearances covering his last eight games.

Three-hit effort in win Pinder went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a run in a win over the Astros on Sunday.
Impact Pinder's sixth-inning two-bagger plated Sean Murphy to bring the Athletics within a run at the time. The veteran utility asset's multi-hit effort was his first since July 1 and extended his hitting streak to four games, a stretch during which he's gone 6-for-16 with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBI.

On pace for best numbers since '19 Pinder, who went 1-for-3 with a grand slam and an additional run in an extra-innings win over the Rangers on Tuesday, is on pace for his best home run and RBI numbers since 2019.
Impact The veteran utility man has rediscovered his power stroke by leaving the yard in back-to-back games after going well over a month without a homer, and the pair of round trippers has pushed him one over his 2021 season tally of six in 15 fewer games. Moreover, Pinder now needs just six homers over the Athletics' remaining 73 games to match his season totals from both 2018 and 2019, while his current tally of 24 RBI is a manageable 23 away from the career-best 47 he mustered during the latter campaign.

Blasts three-run homer Pinder went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Monday's 10-8 loss to the Rangers.
Impact Pinder snapped a homer drought dating back to May 27 with his eighth-inning blast. This was also just his second game of the year with multiple RBI. The 30-year-old has gone 4-for-19 (.211) through six games in July, and he's slashing a meager .229/.257/.366 with six homers, 20 RBI, 18 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases in 59 contests overall. Despite his defensive versatility, the righty-hitting Pinder hadn't started against a right-handed pitcher since June 26 prior to being in the lineup against Spencer Howard on Monday. Pinder remains a staple in the Athletics' lineup versus southpaws.

Retreats to bench Pinder is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Impact Pinder had started at three different spots (left field, right field and designated hitter) over the past three contests, but he'll head to the bench Wednesday with right-hander Jameson Taillon on the mound for New York. Though the righty-hitting Pinder should play regularly against left-handed pitching, the Athletics are likely to deploy him more selectively against righties.

Starts after two-game absence Pinder will start in right field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Royals, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact After sitting out Friday and Saturday, Pinder will check back into the starting nine for the series finale, entering the outfield in place of a resting Ramon Laureano. Though Pinder has the ability to play either corner-infield spot as well as multiple infield positions, he doesn't look like he'll be in store for anything more than a part-time role while he's holding down a middling .239/.266/.375 slash line on the season.
