Option picked up The Blue Jays exercised Green's two-year, $21 million option Monday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Impact Green returned from Tommy John surgery to post a 5.25 ERA and 16:4 K:BB over 12 innings down the stretch for the Jays. As long as he stays healthy and regains his pre-op stuff, Green should be a value at $21 million. He'll be in line for setup duties ahead of closer Jordan Romano.

Impact The 32-year-old right-hander has struggled since being activated from the 60-day IL at the beginning of September, posting a 7.36 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB through 7.1 innings, but he has three wins in eight appearances in addition to Sunday's hold. Green has thrown only 22.1 innings the last two seasons due to Tommy John surgery in June 2022, but a $6.25 million player option for 2024 could ensure he remains in the Toronto bullpen next year if he wants to rehabilitate his market value. Impact Green had to pause his rehab assignment between Aug. 8 and Aug. 16 after getting hit in the head by a catcher's throw to second base, but he is again on the verge of making his Blue Jays debut. It sounds like the team is discussing whether to activate him early next week or wait until major-league rosters expand Sept. 1. The 32-year-old reliever is more than 16 months removed from Tommy John surgery.
